How to spot GOP plants

GOP plants don't know how to spell. See Susan Sunflower's last post, with "rasism" and one of my all-time peeves, the their/there/they're screwup. Also see "fellation" among so many others. Here's an idea: Type up your post on a word processor with a spell check, just to make sure you're not talking gibberish. Well, you'll still be talking gibberish, but at least it'll be spelled correctly.

On a side note, who has time to write 50 letters on one article? Are you all retired? Is there no work to be had in Ireland? Does it take even more time to make your letters rhyme? Hey, that sort of rhymes...

Valiant efforts, Mr. Hutman

...But I fear you are wasting your time. Nobody comes to the internet for "facts" or "logic." Nobody in these letters has shown any desire to have an actual discourse, its just talking points and intellectual wankery. Kennedy is a drunk, because of a tragic event from 20+ years ago. Michelle Obama wears wigs made from the hair of poor Indian women, because theres no way she got HER nappy hair that straight. Yeah, that's right, I suggested wig woman is a racist. And you know what the best part is? This is the internet, so I don't need any proof or credentials to make my claim. I can be an anonymous condescending asshole and say any stupid thing I want, and people will read it.

All that being said, thanks for trying.

@JohnPM - Re: The Apocalypse

The book of Revelation doesn't refer to any modern countries, or course, except Israel. There is a reference to a "beast from the north" that swoops down on Israel, which a lot of US Republican Christians took to be a reference to Russia during the cold war. There are millions of interpretations to Relevation, and of course the language is highly symbolic and some theologians have even asserted that the events "recounted" in Revelation have already happened. The "Christians" who think they can help bring about the apocalypse are deranged, and I find it hard to believe their opinions are shared by a majority of Christians worldwide.

A few comments

1. Obama won the "competence" argument (speaking for myself here) by running an amazing campaign and organizing a hell of a convention. Obviously one person doesn't know everything that a president will have to determine over the course of a term or two. Obama has good people around him and has made a lot of good choices (hence, his success). McCain has Swift Boaters and Bushites on his staff.

2. I don't put a lot of faith in the Ivy League, but the fact that Obama excelled in undergrad and Harvard Law School suggests that he is a pretty smart dude. The fact that he attracted and married a smart and educated woman suggests he is not a sexist (they tend to go after less intelligent or educated women, in my experience). And just as a bonus, Michelle isn't decades younger than Obama, and she wasn't his mistress before she was his wife. I guess that's two points, but I'm being lazy here.

3. My wife, who has more formal education than Gov. Palin, is offended, as a woman and an intelligent human being, by the nomination of Palin as VP. If she had no chance at the VP as a man (and can't we all agree on that?), selecting her cannot be anything other than pandering. A BA in journalism would not give Palin the background to make an educated judgement call on some of the idiotic advice she would surely get should she be required to assume the presidency. Apologies to the lawyer haters, but government positions are filled mostly by lawyers because of a little concept called "the rule of law." Presidents who don't respect law or who view it as an obstacle to achieving their agendas tend to be disasters. W is a good example.

4. I am a conservative Christian from the midwest (see my other letters if you want, I suppose), and I will be voting for Obama. Being Pro-Life (and the names are inherently ridiculous, nobody is Pro-Abortion, and Pro-Lifers tend to have decidedly Anti-Life views on topics other than abortion) is not enough to convince me that the modern Republican party is any more moral or "Christian" than any other party. On the contrary, the depravity of Republicans over the last eight years is what has driven me to the Democrats. I am working on the rest of my family as well.

Benji!

*Plenty of people will belong to the fringe beliefs of any group. Point is, judge the individual by her own beliefs.*

Could you expound on this notion regarding Obama? Here's a clue: Maybe you could talk about how Ayers and Wright are on the "fringes," and we should judge Obama by his own beliefs, which, you know, you can find in great detail in the books he's written, on his website, in his speeches...

No? Not gonna do that? Come on man, this is too easy.
