Every single one of you is in desperate need of an audit, followed by a good long recorded confession session. Hey quick question: why would you record a confession if you didn't intend to make use of it at some point in the future? Do these Scientologist confession-hearers suffer from serious memory lapses and require the recordings to pray to Xenu on behalf of their flock?
One more question: if you have some sort of secret to intergalactic peace, isn't it just a little bit selfish to refuse to share that secret without being generously compensated? Did Hubbard found this religion after a particularly bad Ayn Rand binge or what?
The notion that one group's behavior is excusable if an adverse group has also behaved poorly is antithetical to Christianity, since God's standard is holiness and not being a standard deviation or two more moral than your neighbors. Also, there's this:
Ephesians 6:12 "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." It's a pretty popular verse; I'm not sure why more Christians don't think about what it means.
Oh, and regarding "appeasement," there's this: "You have heard that it was said, 'Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.' But I tell you, Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you."
Somebody needs to find the pansy lukewarm progressive who said that and teach him a thing or two about "real" Christianity.
Why do you hate states' rights?
@Chief Payne: Are those the same fiscally responsible democrats who voted for emergency supplemental war funding every quarter for six years? What responsibility! What courage!
The inquisitions were started by the Catholic church, which forbade the translation of the Bible into the languages spoken by the uneducated masses and extorted money from its parishioners through indulgences. The idea was, if you gave your money to the church, they would pray to God on your behalf and you would be spared purgatory.
Scientologists don't allow their holy texts to be read by the general public, and sue anyone who tries to disseminate them, citing "trade secrets" and copyright violations. It is not until you have devoted years of time and tons of money to the "church" that you are given access to the holiest of holy texts. They also require their followers to spend great deals of money on "auditing" and "confession" sessions. When people leave the church, recordings of these "confessions" are frequently released to the public to discredit and shame the heretics. Thus the church attempts to destroy apostates and traitors to their religion.
So who are the inquisitors here?
But I have a problem with the forum. Alex Jones is an embarassment to reasonable conspiracy theorists the world over, and counts intellectual giants like Spencer and Heidi from The Hills as fans and radio show guests. Having anything to do with that douchebag undermines Grayson's credibility quite a bit.
I'm not sure how anyone could get more disingenuous than this douchebag. America never sought to be a hegemon, yeah right, we just happened to have CIA in every fucking country in South America for the last forty years because our CIA guys like to vacation down there. And we totally didn't want to go to Iraq, twice, let alone all the military interventions during the Clinton years, didn't want to support coups in Haiti, Venezuela, and Chile, didn't support insurgent groups in Afghanistan against the Soviets, and are totally accidentally supporting insurgent groups in Iran to this day. Yeah we're a totally accidental hegemon.
Krauthammer's primary assumption, and that of most neo- and movement conservatives, shines through in this interview: the people of the world cannot govern themselves and need to be coerced into "correct" behavior by a benevolent superpower for their own good. Their real problem is not with Democrats, but with Democracy.
