I wouldn't assume.

Don't get me wrong, the four conservatives on the Court are perfectly willing to arrive at the conclusion they want and then come up with some ridiculously audacious way of justtifying it, but...

There's still states' rights. Regulating the use of firearms, like automobiles or other potentially dangerous items, is a state concern, and the Court is going to be at least a little reticent to infringe on a state's exercise of its police powers in determining how best to regulate guns.

Another possibility: The Supreme Court needs to maintain some credibility in the area of selective incorporation, the Second Amendment is one of the few provisions in the Bill of Rights that hasn't been "selectively incorporated," the Supreme Court effectively runs cover for the selective incorporation doctrine AND reinforces its state rights street cred by allowing the state and city laws to stand. Stranger things have happened.

Well of couse.

Wait a second, we were supposed to pay attention to these things called "facts?" Come on Glenn, you take these things as opportunities to attack the opposing party, not because we care about what happened or who broke international law.

(both parties, but then again we're not really in a position to lecture anyone else on compliance with international law)

Blitzer

It is a bit funny that, in a test of general knowledge, one of the major newsmen in the country gets destroyed by the sidekick of a guy who describes his job as "acting like an idiot." Not funny, ha-ha, but funny WTF.

@Jebbie

Correct. The CPAP is a treatment option, possibly the best one available. By keeping your airway open, it allows you to breathe in your sleep. Without it your airways close and you need to wake up before you can continue breathing. The best method to "cure" OSA is to lose weight, although supposedly there are people who are downright skinny and still struggle with OSA. I have never been able to sleep with a CPAP on, although I will have to try again if my symptoms don't improve in the near future.

Re: Pakistan

When you consider that a lot of the violence associated with organized crime in India is actually a proxy war between the ISI and India's equivalent (too lazy to Google it at the moment), India and Pakistan are in tight competition for the number one spot on the "sponsors of terror" leaderboard. The history goes back a long way before the recent Mumbai attacks, if I'm reading my copy of McMafia right. Of course if you characterize OBL, Saddam Hussein, and numerous others who have received support from the US government as terrorists, perhaps the US deserves a spot on the board as well.

@pagal; more comments

My evenhandedness is by no means an attempt to throw out the "everybody's doing it" defense, I just don't know who deserves the majority of the blame. Once I find out I will condemn them thoroughly, I assure you. And I did cite a source, actually: The book McMafia by the BBC reporter Misha Gleny, which is a fascinating read. Now onto more CPAP stuff:

I would assume the reason people collect disability for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is that in some cases it can be extremely difficult to maintain focus because of the severity of the condition. People suffering from especially bad cases of OSA have been known to doze off in inopportune circumstances, like while driving on the freeway. You might too if you woke up over 200 times every night. Since disability in general (can't speak to veterans' specific situation) is partially defined by your ability to do relevant work, people who had previously done work that required them to operate heavy equipment or drive long distances could be legitimately disabled as a result of OSA. Granted this should be rare, but it is certainly possible. In keeping with my established tradition of laziness on these boards, I will not be editing this post to make it read better. Sorry!

Bong Hits 4 Jesus

This one's going to the Supreme Court for sure! Oh you poor middle-class Christians with martyr complexes. In the past you were fed to lions and lit on fire in the emperor's gardens, but it's never been as bad as it is now.

Note my past letters. I'm a Christian, and boy oh boy can I not stand these Christians.

@stinky

"What is the difference between an underage party favor and a CBS Late Night Employee?"

I think the answer might be in the question somewhere. Maybe something to do with the word "underage."
