bad cop, no donut...

1. most cops are *NOT* motivated primarily by social conscience and 'to protect and to serve'; they need a fucking job (like the rest of us wage slaves), and this is what they can get into... (as others have pointed out, it will *attract* power freaks and other authoritarian types who are prone to succumbing to bigshotism...)

2. most cops are *NOT* in the high-risk, death-defying, hyper-dangerous situations, places, or positions where they are *really* exposed to teevee-style violence, gang warfare, etc... *most* are plodding, cooping, pornlovin' donut-eaters who are more bored than anxious... (90%+ of cops will NEVER draw their guns in the line of duty...)

3. cops have on-the-job murder rates of approx 6 per 100000; retail clerks have 6.sumpin; firefighters have approx 12 per 100000, cabbies have approx 30 per 100000...

why aren't cabbies lionized like donut-eaters for their *really* dangerous occupation ? ? ?

4. society is NOT 'protected' by cops, the 'thin blue line' is NOT what prevents us from chaos, it is OUR collective choices NOT to hit our neighbor over the head and take his shit; we simply don't do that for a million reasons that have NOTHING to do with an overstuffed nazi-swat team descending down on us...

5. cops ARE the steel fist in the velvet glove of the powers that be in order to maintain 'order' and the status quo which benefits the top 10% of society (ie slap down the uppity ones who talk about making things better/different...), THAT is their true purpose...

6. it has ALWAYS been thus: the 'protection', investigative services, crime-solving, etc, are almost incidental to the REAL task of keeping a lid on subversive people and activities that would disturb kapitalist imperialism's great march to everlasting glory/profit...

7. most cops -until they get older and cynicallyer- don't even recognize what their real role in society truly is...

8. its not like there is no need for cops in our society, its just that their proper role has been perverted to be the protectors of bidness interests and ADVERSARIES of The People, rather than being OF The People...

Original article: At her majesty's pleasure

wowie zowie, *what* a bunch of dickheads...

1. ALL you creepy calvinists and holier-than-thou pricks can go fuck yourselves all day long and twice on sunday... i guess i know where bush's hardcore 25-30% approval comes from...

(come the revolution, i'll be on the *other* side of the razor wire from you assholes, be sure to wave, brownshirts...)

2. Kansasgirl, say, you aren't another (pretend) xtian, are you ? if so, please answer this question (which most fake xtians will avoid like the plague): WHO would jesus torture again ? ? ? WHO would he says deserves to be raped ? ? ?

your comments are especially impressive in that you admit you didn't read the whole article, AND gave a false report of what the author said... amazing... maybe an unreasonable person who jumps to conclusions 'deserves' to be incarcerated and raped... *snicker*

judge not, lest ye be judged, kansass...

3. tomreedtoon takes a few seconds from his busy heather bashing schedule to pronounce yet more idiocy that would make the world better if only we'd listen... (we won't) 'cause -you know, like- its all the writer's fault for actually wanting to go and do the research he was interested in, rather than consult tommytoons for the best method to effect said research that would least annoy The Man (tm)... jerk...

...*and* the writer didn't have unlimited financial resources to cover any and all contingencies that cropped up; now *that* is a crime against society ! ! !

(geezus, could those posters demonstrate the ugliness of spoiled, rich, removed-from-reality, arrogant, presumptuous nose-in-the-air wasps any better ? ? ?)

4. i am having a difficult time thinking i read the same article as the draconian judges read... seems like he went WAY out of his way to pin the blame on himself, but it was the out-of-proportion reaction of 'our' (sic) velvet police state which was the issue he was reflecting on...

don't tell me, you are the same cohort of morons who gladly, willingly, stupidly GIVE AWAY their constitutional rights for the ILLUSION of safety...

perhaps you recall benjamin's quote which has gotten play during these post nine one one dark days: those who trade freedom for security, deserve neither...

i'm with a previous anon poster: you uber-law-and-order sheeple are despicable, dog damn you all... you don't deserve the constitution and bill of rights; and i don't believe there is ONE OF YOU who would have joined the first american revolution to fight for them... you would self-righteously narc on the rebels to the redcoats, 'cause -you know- them dirty long-haired patriots were breaking the law... *gasp*

The commendably missing element from Obama's speech

There was no pretense that human rights is our goal, or the likely outcome, in escalating the war

Yes, it's Obama's war now

An uninspiring speech sells a dubious policy, but progressives who feel betrayed have only themselves to blame
