@ christ sinner

oh doody doody dum drops, *now* i have an Infallible Moral Authority who can tell me PRECISELY what i should be outraged about (IF anything), and EXACTLY how much outrage i should register...

(i'm guessing the -you know- 'proper' amount of moderated outrage will be just a *teeny* bit less than that approved by and exhibited by christ sinner, Our Arbiter of Appropriate Outrage...)

i *used* to look at websites which were brave enough to post pictures of iraqi victims of OUR war machine... i felt i owed it to the people we were/i was bombing half a world away in a near total news blackout...

have you seen those pictures, christ sinner ?

(good thing the media doesn't make any -you know- unnecessary to-do about them, and -like- shove them in our living rooms unbidden... wow, that could be uncomfortable...)

i say i *used* to do it, because after a half dozen times or so,

of seeing babies torn in pieces,

blocks leveled, families wiped out, scattered body parts,

charred bodies, white phosphorous burns (but no war crime!),

unimaginably horrific injuries that turn people into aliens,

some surviving with but a torso and a head,

i couldn't stop sobbing...

i couldn't stop shaking...

i couldn't stop hideous, strangled cries that scared my dogs...

i couldn't stop thinking of a million innocents killed for the geopolitical games and obscene profits of a relative handful of neo (nazi) con (artistes)...

i couldn't stop thinking of how many deaths were MY/OUR responsibility for TOLERATING this, this, this

ABOMINATION of leadership, this arrogant gruppe of privateers and sociopathic ideologues...

but i guess i'm just a squishy soft pinko, getting all sentimental over -you know- collateral damage of a million innocent people killed for good -or, well, at least inevitable- reasons, my betters tell me...

i guess i should just -you know- fucking 'moderate' my outrage to socially acceptable levels of concern, like you do, christ sinner...

its just that i'm having difficulty internalizing the barbaric socoiopathy i am forced to accept as member of this pathological society... i *can't* THINK about the million innocents WE/I have killed, i can't THINK about the millions of unjust victims of the prison-industrial komplex (and war on some drugs, but not cindy mccain's), i can't THINK about any of a hundred issues and unjust realities that are INSANE on the face of them, but we all must pwetend otherwise, don't we ? ? ?

so, yeah, PLEASE keep me posted, christ sinner, when my -you know- 'nerd rage' has discomfitted you; PLEASE tell me just how to modulate (or eliminate) my pathetic outrage over mere trifles so as not to offend your sensibilities...

'cause -you know- i'd sure hate to piss in the wheaties of a weally, weally cool (and i mean cold) pwogwessive like you...

have you seen those pictures, christ sinner ?

there is one in particular, fairly early on, which haunts me still... a semi-famous picture of a bombing victim, a boy of middle-school age, reaching to the camera with the stumps of his limbs with the most heartrending look of pain and loss on his face... as i recall, his parents were blown up... ANYONE who can look at that picture and not be ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIED at what WE HAVE WROUGHT, is inhuman...

mere outrage is NOT enough...

nothing worth getting overly upset about, though...

slap the ipod back on, grab a handful of cheezy doodles, and slurp your energy drink until your shit runs orange... (repeat your comforting mantra: 'it'll be okay, it'll all be okay, it'll be okay...')

@ kittenkaboodle

? man, you have got serious reading comprehension issues... i realize you are chomping at the bit to jump on my case, but slow down, dangerous curves ahead !

YES, i was mocking you; NO i wasn't disputing *whatever* ill-formed story you were recounting was 'true' or not, nor your daughter's veracity; i was disputing its significance...

chomsky once rambled on incoherently...

gosh, okay, i guess that pretty much puts into question everything he ever said/wrote...

*wasn't* that supposed to be your (untenable) 'point' (such as it was) ?

*my* point regarding chomsky's seminal defining of free speech still stands, your story is meaningless in that context... unfortunately, i forgot to follow the link you provided (seriously, i was going to do so), so i'm not sure what your reply was to my (only half serious) query of you regarding your position on CENSORSHIP...

BUT my main point still stands: HOW can a purportedly progressive site -ANY such site, not just here- justifiably call itself progressive/liberal in ANY sense, when it will NOT stand up for and PRACTICE TRUE FREE SPEECH, the BEDROCK RIGHT and prerequisite of ALL decisions and actions by the citizenry ? ? ?

i KNOW True Free Speech is messy, i KNOW it can be 'difficult' for many reasons, i KNOW it makes a LOT of (mostly ignorant and scared) people 'afraid' (of what ? of IDEAS! of WORDS!), i KNOW that MANY people don't understand its true nature and primary importance; but that only makes it that much more important to defend and secure free and unfettered speech EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME...

again, for the blind greenwaldians: IS CENSORSHIP a progressive value, yes or fucking no ?

pretty simple to answer, but i realize the implications of the answer are uncomfortable, THAT'S WHY I'M ASKING IT...
