Actually, things are pretty clear

I don't like Blago. I don't like Burris. But it doesn't matter, since i don't live in Illinois.

I have no standing, just as the Senate really has no grounds not to seat Burris. He's the legally appointed Senator, and should be sworn in on Monday.

We're a nation of laws. The law has dictated a process for the appointment of an interim Senator, and it seems to have been followed. Yes, there's taint -- but there's a process for that, too. It's called Democracy.

No need for the Senate to protect Illinois from themselves: They elected Blago, and get to live with their decision until such time as he (maybe) stands trial and is convicted. If they don't like Burris, they'll have ample opportunity to rectify the situation at the ballot box.

Reid is embarrassing. He's played this like a complete amateur.

Politicians should listen to themselves talk now and then

Healing? How, exactly, were Minnesotans injured by the democratic process?

Such a telling remark.

2008 McCain/Palin

2012 Palin/Jindal

2016 Palin/Jindal"

NO, I don't think the GOP would send up a losing ticket twice. In any event, Obama is a two-termer. See you in 2016. From this vantage, the only thing for sure is that the GOP's candidate in eight or twelve years will *not* be a Bush.

Original article: Bob the Banker speaks out

Want big, expensive government? Vote Republican.

Doesn't this pseudo-Conservative prattle ever get old? When it comes to sprawling, big-spending, big government rule, the current administration is simply without peer. And despite his protestations to the contrary, John McCain has been one of the Bush cabal's biggest facilitators.

At least Obama is honest about the cost of government. The Bush Administration has been hiding its ballooning cost by pushing the debt on our children (and probably their children, too).

So cry me a river, Joe the Banker. You're a Socialist, too. It's just that you want Socialism for the well-to-do class, not the working people of this country.

Original article: Will racism hurt Obama?

Am I mistaken ...

... or did I just miss Salon's coverage of the Hillary assassination remark? There's space for yet another missive on whether Obama is too black for America, but nothing I can see on Senator Clinton's bizarre "Don't forget ... the front runner could get shot" come-apart.

White preachers aren't as crazy as the black ones

... or that seems to be what the media is thinking.

I've seen Hagee. I've spoken to him. He's a nutbag. These white, fascist, Republican Sons of the Apocalypse are as crazy and hateful as any variety of religious fanatic on the planet.

And they totally get a pass. Must be the Italian suits.

Dumping trash is bad, but ...

I'm an environmentalist, and publish several green websites. So I certainly think ocean dumping of any type is bad.

But if it's *just* aluminum cans and food refuse being tossed overboard by the Navy, it's not much of a problem. The food refuse will get eaten or biodegrade. Aluminum cans break down very quickly in salt water -- they'll literally dissolve in just a few months.

Of far greater environmental concern: spilled jet fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, and all the other highly toxic stuff which finds its way from a military ship into the water. There's also the small matter of nuclear waste disposal.

Yeah, it would be great if the Navy kept their garbage from going over the side. But it's small (rotten) potatoes compared to the overall impact of what amounts to a floating airport.

Calm seas and a safe voyage, sailors.

Damn Hillary

I will vote for Hillary of she's the nominee. But she's run a destructive, incompetent, dirty campaign that demonstrates she's more loyal to her own wants than her to the party.

Her remarks yesterday suggesting that John McCain is more qualified to lead the country than Barack Obama are unconscionable. If anyone is still on the fence, this should be enough to settle things: Rather than maintain even a veneer of party solidarity, Hillary would rather us endure another four years of Bush policies. So much for "change."

Obama has weathered the storm with grace, and should be the one to defeat McCain in the fall.

Down with dynasty

> Or would you prefer another pointless noble flame-out?

In the long view, flame-out would be preferable to oligarchy. This isn't Pakistan. Family politics must go.

So what is cheaper ...

... a divorce or a part-time housekeeper?

This problem kills more marriages than people admit. If you and your husband can't keep up with your crap, hire some cleaning help. It's really not expensive.

But first, consider organizational help. There are consultants who will help you assess your stuff and where you keep it. There's no way to stay neat if there's no place for everything to go.

Do it quickly, though -- for your marriage and your kids.
