One Guy
[Read the article: Who cares if Eliot Spitzer hires prostitutes?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'd certainly consider being a prostitute for a 1,000 dollars an hour. While being a third world woman and being forced into prostition, not so much. Its a word that covers a little too broadly, if you ask me. Much like the words "porn" and "drugs", oddly enough.
However, I do want to reiterate my stand. As this thing emerges, the prostitution thing will slough away, and the real issue will be the account transfers and skullduggery, and that seems to me like impeachable stuff. I liked Spitzer, or should I say, he didn't inspire in me the same revulsion as most politicians. But a deal's a deal.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I could be wrong, but I don't believe he took that tone with you, or insulted you. I assume you'll criticize me for saying this, but these pages would be better-served and less voluminous if people stuck to the ideas and issues, and left personal attacks and ad-hominems aside, as well as gasping expressions of frustrations. And yes, I know I've been rude myself. The idea is solid, ignore the messenger if you wanna.

And...
[Read the article: Targeting bad Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't get a lot of chances to talk politics with people. People in my community just don't give a sh#@! I can go out on the street if I want to call someone an a-hole, or if I desire to be called one myself, and reap the benefits either way; I get the idea that for a lot of people who post here, the opposite dynamic is going on. Go out and yell at people in person, its liberating.

[Read the article: Who cares if Eliot Spitzer hires prostitutes?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There was a story in Newsday today which gave some parallel info. He may have thought that he busted down the money into chunks to small to detect...but then thought better about it. Though it was too late.
http://www.newsday.com/news/politics/ny-stspitzerbank0312,0,1525951.story
"But Spitzer had the money broken down into several smaller amounts of under $10,000 each, apparently to avoid getting around federal regulations requiring the reporting of the transfer of $10,000 or more, the sources said. The regulations are aimed at helping spot possible illegal business activities, such as frauds or drug deals.
Apparently, having second thoughts about even sending the total amount in this manner because it still might reveal what he was doing, Spitzer then asked that the bank to take his name off the wires, the sources said.
Bank officials declined, however, saying that it was improper to do so and in any event, it was too late to do so, because the money already had been sent, the sources said."

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fair's got nothing to do with it. I imagine there's a sort of a 'sex club' thing going on at that level of power. Everyone agrees to keep it a secret, knowing as well that anyone can be outed with the right timing and evidence. Beltway roulette.

Not an idiot...
[Read the article: Targeting bad Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I agree. Ferraro's been making the rounds of the pundit programs o'er this last year and she's still whip-smart. This is lower than mud. To get this low, you're fighting in magma. But I do recall hearing Steinem say something similar, and she also sounds quite lucid the rest of the time. This tactic goes over greasy with white liberal men: but people of color, gay people, and women are used to playing the game of who's suffered more, and who gets the first free chair at the table. I think this is what they call dog-whistle...

Spinal Congress
[Read the article: Signs of life from House Democratic leaders]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"There are almost 300 House Democrats. It's not possible to ascribe a single motive to them, as though they are all motivated by the same thing. I also think human beings rarely act with just one motive; it's usually more complex than that. And knowing what motivates other people is almost impossible."
I agree with this wholeheartedly, though it is a complete turn around from my opinion as a younger man ready to ditch the system. The diversity of congressional representatives is just incredible even in my urban area. The problem of course is, and this is a bit of a moebius strip, the reason they can be so diverse is that their voices are so diluted, especially the voices of progressive democrats.
BUT--I don't have as much faith in the House's sudden finding of religion. My assumption is that the House and Senate partisans have long term strategies, overtaken over years. I'm sure they can react, but only in the context of what they've planned to do. This could be just another prelude to a disappointment, or just a bottom-less platform on which to run the 2008 campaigns. Though I am (cautiously) hopeful.
