I agree that Coburn is a bit of a rebel, always trying to be one step sideways of the current left debate--I think he shows a lot of poor taste on his website, as well as bad judgement. Still, alot of the time he is giving alternate left views a hearing, and there's nothing wrong with that.
There is no such excuse for Hitchens, however. Hitchens can revise history and his own commentary as much as he likes, but if his goal has been to give an alternate mode of thinking a chance in progressive circles, then there is just no excuse for his defense of Bush. I've often felt that leftists tend to be more racist, more colonialist toward the third world, while at the same time less genuinely moved by their misery than their right wing counterparts. That doesn't mean I can't recognize Bush for the corrupt, liar and genocidal pig that he is. I can only hope that in some future state, the evil predicated by the likes of Hitchens, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and other apologists for mass murder will be met with justice.
That's it. Please direct a little bit of that laser-like disinformation splitting power of yours at her for a minute. maybe she'll listen to you, maybe she'll pick up a book or a newspaper before she writes her next column. Its your neighborhood after all
Yes its that time of the month again. Thank you Ms. Paglia for being one of the only members of the fringe leftist media that's getting it right! Yes, damn that Hillary being "whisked from gig to gig by limousine and private jet" when all the other candidates are taking subway trains and pedi-cabs. And thank god that Paglia is monitoring Hannity and Colmes to get America's pulse, otherwise we wouldn't know that one caller to the show "shockingly denied that Mormons are Christians". That must mean that its a trend Camille! Nice Catch!
And kudos for chronicling that Giuliani Brooklyn Museum thing; yes, its true, that was basically Giulianni's only slip up in New York. Oh and that putting the city's emergency control hq in the World Trade Center AFTER it was attacked in 1993. But no big whup, he'll probably revamp and modernize all those big government systems, just like the communication systems between police and fire in NYC, right?
I know that the haters sometimes complain that you don't know what you're talking about. Some people say ou basically turn on the tv the night before you write your article and write 4 pages--just about double what all the other remarkably insightful writers on this website get--based on a surface analysis of everything you see on the screen. So its a good thing you dug up that Salon article from ten years back. Yep, you sure called that Anne Heche thing! Take that you anti-feminists scared of a female intellectual, hating jerks!
After months of reading Salon for free, I finally felt good enough about the quality to feel equally guilty about not paying to support it, so I got a subscription. After they let Paglia back on, I cancelled my subscription. I still, however, read the thing for free. This is the one example in the world where my boycotting of something to a political end has cost me nothing but a momentary inconvenience of waiting for the ad to play out...
so here's how you get rid of Paglia.
1. Everyone who wrote a letter against Paglia cancel your subscription. I guarantee that nothing will change except the money going into Salon's pocket.
2. Post a letter, list your sign on name and state: I just cancelled my membership. I will re-subscribe once you get rid of Camille Paglia's regular column.
Listen, its only 6 bucks a month. I wouldn't even notice it being taken out of my checking account. So its up to you Salon. I'll gladly support this thing if you get rid of her.
I can't help but feel sorry for people like Hitchens, shadow boxing against religeon, heaping the world's ills upon supine faith based systems, even as they cheer on one of the worst losses of life of the modern age.
While religeos violence that kills a few or dozens gets the headlines, what are we to make of the secular Israeli government and its murder of 1,000 Lebanese on the basis of the earthly and rational need for security? And what religeon could possibly have killed as many people as the United States did when it brought democracy to Iraq?
Let's not go into the Nazi regime, which found a cozy scientific nook to hang its hatred of Jews upon, the invention of nuclear weapons, not to exalt God, but to make sure that the US held hegemony over the globe, and the erosion of every eco-system on earth in the name of rational capitalism and progress. The truth is religeon can't hold a candle to the madness and irrationality of rationalism.
Write a book about that, you bloated narcissist.
What's really amazing is that every year at this time, a mainstream left publication, pulls reveals the fact that the pretense for Israel's pre-emptive strike was fabricated. Then, like the rest of mainstream progressives, they forget it for the rest of the next year.
Can we move on from here? Yes, Israel manufactured its victims status in '67, had a plan to take over the WB and Gaza; Oslo and other sham peace plans are the apogee of that plan. Do something about it!
