Zilch on Hannity

I think a testament to how badly the Bush Adminsitration misjudged this one is how little H & C have had to say about it. Generally, Hannity doesn't bring up subjects like this, which can't be spun as long as there's even one person with a brain in the room (in this case, Colmes). Indeed, I think the current brittleness of the Republican party shows that it has for years deluded itself about how dumb conservative Americans really are. Pretty freakin' dumb, of course, but not so dumb that they think that insulating Telecom companies has anything to do with national security. O'Reilly spun this thing in his talking points yesterday and looked like a total ASS.

Why doesn't anyone ever criticize McCain's War-Hero Image

If I remember correctly, war-hero McCain was participating in Rolling Thunder, one of the most heinous bombing campaigns of modern US history, when he was shot down. An unbelievable 50,000 or so, or more, Vietnamese civilians were murdered during his participation in this unprovoked invasion. My god, why doesn't anyone on the left ever bring this up?

Brooks Does Have A Point...

Lord knows, I find Brooks' low-fi operations on behalf of the Republican party to be repellant. But on the Obama issue, I can't see how a reasobable person could disagree. Brooks' writing is overblown and obviously biased, but who can't see the inevitable backlash? Earlier in his candidacy, Obama seemed to be letting others--surrogates, media, etc.--engage in the deification. Now, however, the airwaves are sick with Obama's declarations of his innocent purity and outsiderness. Many people feel--including me, and I voted for him in California--that one can only toot the holier than thou whistle so many times. Pretty soon, the history of Obama's very political votes and strategies will become apparent, and the hang-over will begin. The only thing that seperates Obama from Hillary and others is that he hasn't had as much time to get as barnacled as they have in the brackish waters of legislative politics.

What a Shift!!!!

It seems that only a few months ago there was a growing maturity in Democratic circles. The realization that many of us had never been Democrats, WE ARE PROGRESSIVES. I felt that this was especially strong in the aftermath of the Democratic failure to champion any of the issues they ran on in 2006. THe fact that Democrats were corrupt AND cowardly--became the only way to distinguish them from Republicans who were merely corrput.

The idea of Hillary continuing that legacy in the White House seems repellant to all of us. BUT DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT YOU GET TO BE IN THE TOP THREE DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATES BY NOT BEING A TEAM PLAYER? Does anyone really think that Obama appeared fully formed in the foam of legislative politics, never having taken political considerations over idealism and ethics? Think about this:

Where does all this money come from (and where is it going)?

How is he getting so many nods from so many establishment people?

Why does his rhetoric on Israel sound exactly like [insert Republican or Democrat stooge here].

Why didn't he vote against FISA reform [instead of just voting for the ammendments proposed by Dodd and Feinstein]?

There are many more questions that need to be asked if we really want to know what we're getting into. Don't get me wrong, out of all the choices, I think Obama makes the most sense, because at least the fact that we are electing a trans-national American with dark skin sends a pretty clear message. But that doesn't mean we have to check our brains at the door. Do you really think someone who was the descendant of slaves would have the same shot as Obama?

@Cab305

" Her whole ready to lead from day 1 is laughable when compared to McCain's experience. He has her beat all across the board."

Do you mean the experience of bombing civilians in a bombing campaign that took the lives of 50,000 vietnamese civilians? That experience, in bombing the hell out of a country and not even winning? That experience?
