Hubris
[Read the article: Response from ABC News re: the Saddam-anthrax reports]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is another factor that could have been neatly tucked into Kamiya's article on the failure of the media, and seems to be out in full force here.
Pride, both on a personal and patriotic scale, was a huge part of the emotional reaction to 9/11, and justifiably so. We were attacked? Of course we will band together and fight the enemy! And not just the enemy that attacked us, but the larger threat of terrorism! We will protect the world from such villains! But when pride bloats into hubris, when you start to see the world in Manichaean terms of good and evil, when you no longer can honestly look at yourself, your country, your government, then you are truly doing your enemy's work.
Your first posts concerning ABCnews and their anthrax reporting certainly got me riled, but their lame assertions that they've always been in the right (even through claiming admissions of being incorrect) are frankly appalling. Ross/Schneider, take a step back and look at yourselves and how you've acted in this matter. Seriously. And then consider if you haven't let hubris get the better of you.
Shout out to Glenn Greenwald for the great reporting.

Annihilation
[Read the article: This Modern World]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So, then by Dirac's Equation, there must be an anti-Cheney out there. If he (she?) does turn up, perhaps we can get them to meet and annihilate each other.
Hope springs eternal!

Takin' that money to France!
[Read the article: What will YOU do with your fiscal stimulus check?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Seriously. I keep my credit cards pretty much paid off, and I have a trip scheduled to France this summer. Guess where that extra cash is going?
But I would give this and Bush's first rebate back if could have bought a sound fiscal policy from our government for the last 7 years.

What does this say?
[Read the article: "Name some of Barack Obama's legislative accomplishments ... if you can" ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This says more about Watson and how well prepared he was interviewing with Matthews than it does about Obama's voting record. But yes, it also doesn't shine well on Obama's campaign for not making sure one of their bigger supporters in a key state wasn't more knowledgeable about their candidate (Obama does have plenty to be proud of).
Others have pointed in these comments to some things about both Clinton's and Obama's records (IMHO, I ignore stuff like "congratulated the " or "named a building after ". But, Carpetbagger Report has a nice little article about an amendment banning cluster bombs in civilian areas which shows, at least in my opinion, that Clinton is much more willing to put aside what is right for the many, as long as it is right for her. I’m tired of that attitude coming from Washington, and it is one of the reasons I’m not going to vote for her in November come hell or high water.

Was Jon Stewart there?
[Read the article: "The guys from the Politico brought my mom flowers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You know, if I were a journalist, after the past few years, starting with Bush's election, the war in Iraq, the dismantling of our civil liberties, the role of the press during the Libby trial, etc, coupled with the common perception that most people turn to The Daily Show for their TV news, I would have been too embarrassed to go to this party and instead would have stayed at home and grown a pair.
But I do have two questions:
1) Were any bloggers invited and if so, how many attended?
2) Has anyone who was there from the media written a story about it?
I suppose the answer to both is "no", although I wonder about #1.
