Don't distort Rudy's words.

I've gotta agree with mbtogut1 here. This was just another way for Rudy to worm "9/11" into his comments. In fact, there's probably no question he won't answer without a 9/11 reference...

Mock Question: Rudy, the baby boomers are nearing retirement and will break the Social Security and Medicare programs. What will you, as president, do to address this looming crisis?

Mock Rudy Answer: Look, 9/11 changed everything. On 9/11, the terrorists attacked us because they hate our entitlement programs. As mayor during 9/11, I spent more time at Ground Zero than anyone during the aftermath of 9/11. On 9/11, I handled the crisis of 9/11. Entitlements aren't a crisis. 9/11 was a crisis. So I can handle things, just like I did on 9/11. When I was mayor on 9/11. 9/11!

@NCSteve

Now that is some impressive imagery.

But who will play Rudy in the movie? Perhaps Fred Thompson?

@Gary Meyer

So basically we're sacrificing about three soldiers per day and two billion dollars a week for...what? Nobody knows.

Hey, you just gotta have faith. Abraham was prepared to sacrifice his son Isaac in the Old Testament, but God swooped down at the last minute and saved the day.

So have faith.

All Iraq needs is a little "deus ex machina."

Aside: does it scare the crap out of anyone else that we have these military leaders speaking in vagaries and I-don't-knows? Don't military leaders usually speak in more clear-cut, definitive terms? I mean, when even they're vague? Well, holy f-ck.

Re: Why the heck did she agree to go on Wallace's show in the first place?

She might not have gone to woo Republicans. Maybe it was to woo Democrats.

Noam Sane makes a good point in describing Clinton's belly-laugh. She seemed to be having...fun.

It showed she's not afraid of Republican pissants. And it showed a warm and fun side of Clinton that people really need to see.

Clinton wasn't in any danger going on Fox News Sunday. Bill Clinton could handle Chris Wallace and so can Hillary Clinton.

FYI: She was also on Meet the Press, and it's convenient to be able to trot out the same talking points at one time.

@debpet

I saw that ad, too, and it pissed me off.

If we’re going to change Washington, Republicans have to put our own house in order. We can’t be like Democrats – a party of big spending. We can’t pretend our borders are secure from illegal immigration. We can’t have ethical standards that are a punch line for Jay Leno. When Republicans act like Democrats, America loses. It’s time for Republicans to start acting like Republicans. It’s time for a change and change begins with us. I’m Mitt Romney and I approve this message.

Wow, we've had a Republican President, House and Senate yet all problems are still the fault of Democrats. Republican president takes us from a Democratic president's record surplus to record deficit? Democrats' fault. Republican ethics scandals? Democrats' fault.

And it takes real gall as a Republican to try to run as a "party of change."

Let's make sure people don't forget this ad if Romney gets the Republican nomination. Yeah, try to sway a single Democratic or Independent voter with this crap. "When Republicans act like Democrats"... sheesh.

Mukasey's a Conservative.

Mukasey's a Conservative. Big whoop. Who did you expect Bush to nominate--Janet Reno?

I don't see anything wrong with a Liberal president picking people with a Liberal bent or Conservative presidents picking someone with a Conservative bent.

What matters is if someone interprets straight down the party line and allows political affiliation to trump measured judgement.

What matters is competence and choosing people that are the best and brightest in their field.

What matters is choosing people who serve the country and the Constitution first, not a particular president or party.

Bush has a defined track record of not picking people who have what it takes where it matters. So Mukasey deserves heavy scrutiny. And I agree with bdop4 that Mukasey's private GOP meeting is fair game for the confirmation hearings. But I don't think Mukasey should be dismissed out of hand for being a Conservative.

Torture

I wonder what form of torture Jesus would prefer?

Fighting the urge to make an inappropriate crucifixation comment. Fight it, fight it...

@saintzak

I'm seeing a whole series. Presidential candidates and how they play...

-Monopoly: Do they always have to be the race car, or do they get stuck being the thimble?

-Connect Four: Do they win on the diagonal? "Pretty sneaky, sis!"

-Life: Do they choose a career or college?

-Dungeons & Dragons: Do they live in their mom's basement?

Heavy Lifting?

stevio writes, "That he wants to position the next president to aid-and-abet this sorry legacy is repulsive in both thought and deed."

My thoughts exactly. I find the whole thing arrogant and gross.

According to the Examiner, Bush goes on to say, "Look, I’d like to make as many hard decisions as I can make, and do a lot of the heavy lifting prior to whoever my successor is."

Heavy lifting? You? That'd be laughable if it weren't so vulgar. I think the troops are the ones doing the heavy lifting--literally. Except, of course, for the troops that don't have sufficient body armor. They wish they were doing some heavy lifting.

Don't you get how very wrong the country thinks you are, Mr. President? We don't want a "third" Bush term. Actually, you do get it. You just don't care. Because we're not the President, you are, Mr. C-Student. And we don't know what you know. What only you know. You're the President, and you've got Jesus on speed dial. You thoughtless, arrogant prick.
