>>>"Other than Israel AND EGYPT, can you think of another country that we send billions of taxpayer dollars to which use that money in ways that are detrimental to the US?" (emphasis added)
Didn't you just disprove your own point about Glenn's allegedly neutral reportage? I think all would agree that Egypt engages in gross violations of human rights, and if Glenn has slammed the US-Egypt relationship, I missed his column that day.
The US-Saudi relationship is different from US-Israel in a number of ways, but it could be argued that we have contributed immensely more to the House of Saud than to Israel, and that Saudi Arabia makes Israel look like Denmark crossed with Camelot.
With Tebow plus all 11 starters on defense returning, the Gators will be very good.
There is a lot of unfairness in the system, but I'd say the SEC champion is certainly more deserving of being in the title game than a Big 12 also-ran. Texas' argument was the supremely hyprocritical one of claiming that the head-to-head result trumped all as against Oklahoma, but not as against Texas Tech. No one who wasn't a diehard Longhorn found this persuasive.
The last 2 times the Gators went to the nat'l title game, they played and defeated the #1 ranked team. Hard to argue with that.
As for Tebow, it remains to be seen how he'll do in the NFL, but I think college players should be judged on their collegiate achievements rather than their pro careers. Otherwise, you'd have to say (for example) that Edgerrin James and Curtis Martin were better college running backs than Herschel Walker and Bo Jackson, and Jay Cutler was a better college QB than Vince Young. But I saw 'em, and they weren't.
>>>Do you believe we should support Israel regardless of how Israeli actions affect the United States?
No.
K Trout's "fuck you" did seem a tad harsh for a debate about college football... Most of us here can even debate I/P without Cheneying one another.
Thank you and good night to you as well...
At the risk of further inflaming an embittered Texas fan, why do you call Omooex a racist? I've misjudged many people over the years, but that is not my take on him at all.
"Law school geeks"? Oh, you're a mean one, Mr. Trout.
Our basketball team just hasn't had enough size the past 2 years, but I was hoping we'd make the tourney. Oh well, that's life as a Florida fan... just one disappointment after another.
As to Omooex, I'm not going to go back thru other people's letters. It appears you can call him a racist but can't back it up.
Omooex and I are sort of on opposite sides of one of the world's most hate-filled ethnic/religious/territorial conflicts, and we've had some vigorous disagreements, but as far as I can tell, he is as free of bigotry as any person one is likely to encounter.
"they don't commit acts of violence"
Marco Materazzi would beg to differ...
Glenn: OK, I exaggerated, but only a little. You have your reasons for thinking that Israel is the most important country in the world besides the US, and that's fine.
Omooex: FWIW, I think it is appalling to describe our first black president as "shucking and jiving." I think the odds of that particular phrase being used in reference to a white president are basically nil, for reasons that should be obvious to anyone with a little historical awareness. This is not to say that the commenter who used the phrase is a racist (racism being a serious accusation that should not be flung around lightly as some here are wont to do, not to name any names), but the phraseology was, IMO, very unfortunate.
What rrheard said.
Bystander: Your play on "campaign promise" captured perfectly what many have been suspecting for a while now. It seems abundantly clear that Obama has made an absolute commitment to ensuring that no meaningful investigation of the Bush crime spree ever occurs. I'm not sure the Obama Admin has any higher priority. The "why" still puzzles me, though these comments contain some interesting guesses.
Glenn: Your work on this issue, particularly given that a lot of Democrats probably wish you'd STFU about it, has been superb.
I supported HRC in the primary but was quite taken with Obama as time went on. I actually thought he meant some of that stuff about the rule o' law, etc. Silly, silly me.
