Elphie

Please tell us that if things go badly for you and yours on November 4th, you'll find sympathetic others to support you in your grief and not hurt yourself or anyone else. Really, there's more to life than politics and, even if your side looses, it won't mean God has deserted you.

It might mean, however, that God had other ideas than letting you win. Maybe you'll want to check things out with God and see what some of those ideas might be. You know, following the ten commandments. Loving God. Loving your neighbor as much as you love yourself. Caring for the alien and sojourner in your country...

Believe it or not, and despite the vitriol of some of the folks here, none of us wish you harm. We just hope you'll gradually find that you're able to take stock, and let the tiniest glimmer, the smallest whisper of an idea form in your awareness, that perhaps... just perhaps... some small piece of what you've believed and worked toward might have been the least little bit misguided, maybe even outright wrong (by the way, this is the opposite of plotting how to work revenge on those whom you regard to be responsible for your loss.)

The rest of us do this all the time. We've been wondering whether we might be mistaken about what we thought we saw developing ever since Reagan was president. Now we see we were right about a great deal of it, which means, there might be a very slim chance that you and those on your side might have been wrong about at least some things.

But that's OK. You're human too. We ALL make mistakes and miss some steps along the way. The real trick to life is figuring out where you got off the track and correcting your course.

The only true shame, the only real way to dishonor our human nature and the God who is constantly trying to guide us into better paths day-by-day is refusing to believe we're human and stubbornly insisting we can't possibly have been wrong about anything. Therein lies a whole collection of paths to destruction.

Destruction is not what any of us want for you or any of the folks on your side, even though it often seems to be what you might want for us. What we really want is for you to open up, get broader ideas, find less limited ways of understanding yourselves and the world even if that means you don't agree with us on everything.

And That's What's really going on

with "Joe Six Pack" and "Joe the Plumber." I hope this one spreads all the way around the globe, because the rich people going to McCain and Palin rallies, although they love to groan at what might happen to the "Joe's," the fact is they're not "Joe's", they can't imagine how "Joe's" live, and they've screwed the Joe's seven ways from Sunday. They don't give a da__about the "Joe's."

What they're really groaning about is the possibility that after dancing higher and higher on the heads of those "Joe's," whose wages stayed the same while everything else got more expensive, mostly as the result of the slander/murder of the labor unions begun by Mr. Reagan, the time has come for these McCainites to pay the piper. The rest of us have been paying the piper for all these years, just so they could dance. The "Joe's" if they haven't drunk the koolaide, are sick to death of it, and have hit bottom as in the commercial, not because they drank too much Bud Lite, but because they've been cheated by an economy structured to make it legal for them to be screwed in every imaginable way.

Coupled with this they've been living in a commercial/consumerist society that convinced them to give up far too much of what they earned to interest and fees on the money they borrowed through mortgages, credit cards, debit cards, and checking account fees, celebrated living irresponsibly, and blamed them when they did what their financial advisors/mortgage brokers/bankers and the president and Federal Reserve chief told them to do, all of which enriched the rich and took them down to where the commercial shows them to be now.

The party's been over for the "Joe's" for awhile now, but they remember better days and who brought them those days. They'd love to hear those at the McCain rallies groaning much louder because they've had to learn how to actually work for a living and survive on real "Joe"-type wages. It's absolutely time for CHANGE, and the "Joe's" are completely entitled to a BIG dose of schadenfreude. I hope they get it.
