Original article: Obama's bump

Suarez

I see you saw the commercial. Perhaps you were unaware that the basketball game that Obama attended "rather than visit the troops" was actually with army troops in either afghanistan or kuwait. When was the last time you shot hoops in the sandbox?

PS: In other words, the ad was bullshit. Any damn fool can repeat what they saw on a lying commercial...and some apparently do.

Original article: Two Obama developments

Town hall meetings

I was surprised that Obama turned down McCain on the town hall thing thinking he could really show him up. I now agree with the other posters that it would only increase voter fatigue and, if he'd started weeks ago while the media was still fully in McCain's pocket, all McCain would have to do is show up to "win". Now the media is turning against McCain (after all, who doesn't want to write the story of the election of the first AA president?) and there is at least a chance that he will have shenagigans called when appropriate.

So McCain continues to travel about and have his town hall meetings and what does it get him? A couple of sound bites on the evening news and an audience of carefully screened citizens who were going to vote for him anyways. If Obama had been there it would have been pre-empted TV for the entirety of the event...for free.

Oh, and clinton people and GOP trolls whose names I have come to recognize and ignore: Go ahead and open your wallet to retire HRH's debt and move on. This one is over for her. By the way, I could have sworn I heard her say she was going to vigorously work for a democratic win. Where has she been? Or was that promise to help another "mispeak".

Original article: McCain's McMansions

Nice try Jeb

The Rezko thing is dead. It went nowhere. If there was "there" there, it would have done to death in the primaries. Besides, this was for ONE house.

Now 10 mansions....that has middle america written all over it doesn't it. Oh, I forget, he was a POW so being an out of touch, rich elitist is OK.

Original article: The big convention bounce

I'm still hoping

That after the conventions are held and veeps are named that the media will buckle down to work on the story they really, really want to write, the election of America's first black president. If they want to write it, it can happen.

We had the maverick "come back from the political grave" story which was a fun one to write and gave McCain a lot of cover until he started to bash the media itself in the last couple of weeks. Yes Obama gets more "coverage" than McCain but most of it so far is negative, dismissing or at best questioning. Hopefully that will change if the talking heads change their tune from "Who is this guy?" to "He's different but that's OK".

Oh yes. And, God, please let him choose Lieberman. Amen

Clinton calling for end of roll call

That would show tremendous class and would go far for all that unification stuff. It would also, technically, keep her from losing (again) which may be why she is agreeing to it.

Smith

"Compared to cunt, Obamabot is hardly an insult."

Ah, now you are talking about the PUMA favored alternative, Sen. McCain!

Monday, August 25, 2008 10:14 PM

"an inadequate black male"

So there really are only three alternative explanations to the whole PUMA thing.

1) Since Clinton and Obama's platforms are so similar to each other and McCain is so far apart from either, they "will vote McCain" because he is white, and for someone who calls themselves democrats, ONLY because he's white.

2) They are compelled to live out the most misogynistic stereotype of the bitter, unfulfilled, unforgiving woman. The bunny killer who wants to hurt you, even if it hurts them, because you did them wrong and will never, never, never let you forget it.

3) They are republican operatives and are having fun with this role playing exercise.

Perhaps they should be asked, "Which one are you?"

Lieberman, Jindal, & Romney are all right with me

I don't think one can assume that because the democratic party will nominate and support a person of color or someone jewish for high office that the every day republican electorate will stand for it, especially when that person has a higher than average chance of taking the big chair sometime in the next four years. There are certainly racist/religiously bigoted democrats and I hear there are some reasonable republicans (though they would be democrats if truly progressive) but, other than re-establishing the maverick moniker, I don't the see the upside for McCain of nominating any of the above. Which is why I hope he does.

Original article: Greek columns? Really?

Them columns

aren't for pundits and political bloggers. They are to tickle the reptilian hindbrain of the underinformed voter to light up the Obama-presidential connection. I'm not dismayed that Obama would go for this look, I'm dismayed that the Obama people are probably right that, as tacky as it seems to political junkies, it will probably work just fine. So much easier than trying to explain why "drill now" won't lower the gas prices next week.

Lieberman has a "camp"?

So this is serious then and not just a fantasy of mine that it would be Obama-Biden against McCain-Lieberman?

By the way, that would make 4 senators on the two tickets. Supposedly senators have a devilish time getting elected (last one being Kennedy, I believe). Perhaps the whole election would implode under the weight of all that senatorialness and we could get back to work.

Original article: How it happened

Sen Clinton showed grace and class this afternoon.

There, that's settled. I haven't seen Bill's talk this evening but we can hope it's half as good as HRC's last night.

Soooooooooo. Jeb? Katetx? Proudtexas? We know where elephantman stands, what about you guys?

That's the spirit Jeb!

Nice rant. I knew you wouldn't let us down.

Jeez. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

When you have nothing to say,

it's nice to have an excuse not to say it.
