"Typical politician"

"Pot, meet kettle".

Fine, let them run with this for a few days. It's really just about all they got.

I am disappointed that Obama felt he couldn't play by public financing rules, but I think he would have been a fool to do so in this case. For the first time in a generation or two the democrats have what the republicans have always had, deep pockets (or more properly, lots and lots and lots of shallow pockets.) Wiser move would have been to say nothing about it at the beginning but we are past that. It had nothing to do with the primary (do we really think HRC would have shut down hillaryclinton-dot-com to take public money?) but everything to do with the national elections.

Collect money, spend money, win the election, and do good. If this is "winning at all costs" or "ends justifies the means", it's a pretty lame example of such.

And I agree Mr. Koppelman's work, although usually interesting and informative to read, does tend to borrow its titles from the republican talking points.

Since the youth vote actually matters this time...

It's really important to know how the poll was conducted. If conducted entirely on line, it may over-represent the under 40's who would trend Obama. If it is conducted completely by phone, it misses a chunk of the under 40's who don't have land lines (or don't answer them). In that case McCain is in even more trouble than they think.

I believe they had all of 3 hours or something like that to review reams of records.

Thank you 1972guy

For putting the proper perspective on this whole discussion.

It's a losing game...

...trying to talk rational politics to either AKA Smith or jebdl. They are either republican trolls or so set in their ways and emotions that they proudly refuse to be convinced that voting for any democrat is better than any republican this year. And Dakinikat? Writing looks awfully Katetex/ProudTexasgirl to me; is new handle for you?

Clinton is on the obama bus. If he wins, she gets power. If he loses, she gets to share the blame and is political toast(however right or wrong you feel that may be). Soooooo, if you are a clinton fan, you do what she says and do as she does. Or you're not, and perhaps never really were.

about the fighter planes mccain lost

We'll spot him the one he was shot down in. He lost 4 others in accidents, an impressive total.

None of the above disqualifies, or qualifies, one to be president.

"John Aravosis, who came unhinged attacking Hillary Clinton "

An interesting read overall. I have to wonder though;, is Ms Walsh physically and/or psychically incapable of writing an entire piece without waving the bloody shirt of of the evil behind HRC's stolen crown? Perhaps someday, eh?

I don't like him either but you can't say stuff like that without inviting a visit by the men in black. Let's work on removing him and his kind from office legally and peacefully. As for Iran, we will continue the hidden special ops war there but no big, public, video footage sort of attacks before the election as I think even the neocons realize that would be the last nail in the coffin of the republican party. Now what he may do between November and January 4th...that is a legitimate concern.

Are you sure mccain was born after 1904? Just sayin'

Congratulations, Joan

Although there was an obligatory Obama dig, this is perhaps the first essay you've done in weeks/months that didn't mention HRC by name somewhere in it (Ooops, I did.)

When talking about that certain unamed 1st term senator not stacking up against a previously known quality sort of war hero, I detect a certain wistfulness. I do believe you and many of the others will eventually vote democrat because that is where American values currently lie but I firmly believe you guys will take a grim satisfaction if Obama loses, no matter what that means for the nation.

Original article: The Obama cover kerfuffle

Of course it's satire.

I get the joke but I live in a large family where no statement at a family event should be taken at face value because it is probably an elegant mix of sarcasm and hyperbole.

That being said; what bugs me about this cover is the idea of it being posted on the bulletin boards of various wingnuts (elephantguy, wes, jeb, maybe even Joan Walsh?) as a nice summation of everything they would love to hate about Obama, true or not.

Original article: Another McCain gaffe

Still, I'm sure McCain will now be extra careful not to accidentally refer to Austria-Hungary.

No, you should not read political blogs at work. I think I owe my company a new keyboard...all that nose-flavored coffee on it...

Original article: Another McCain gaffe

Isms, Isms, Isms.

Not every critique about Obama is racism; there are legitimate complaints.

Not every critique about Clinton was sexism; there were legitimate complaints.

Not every critique about McCain is ageism. There are some legitimate concerns. Some may relate to age related problems. Some may nothing to do with his age. I don't view this gaffe as a big deal. Sunni/Shia was a big deal. The fact that he seems not to remember (or care) what his voting record really was is a big deal.

Watching him reminds me more and more of my father 4 years ago when he was McCains current age and this weekend my father wasn't sure if one of my siblings was his sister or his daughter. That's a real concern to me. My father is a great guy and a true patriot but has no business being president. I'll be watching his VP choice really carefully since, if elected, I'm sure they will be elevated sometime between 08 and 12.

Original article: The McCain cartoon satire

jeb, I think you overplayed your hand a bit here.

Although you've spent the last few months championing Clinton, most of us just assumed you were a right winger earning your McCain points. Still, people continue to try to educate you about those fact things, not realizing that they've been hosed by a troll. I'm afraid you left your elephant trunk hanging out with your (over) ardent praise of the republican candidate in these posts.
