Well actually

Knight = Ritter auf Deutsch. "Knecht" actually means something more like servant, farm hand or the like. Actually a dandy name for a congrssman ("Good servant") if they were actually doing their job.

From the postings it sounds like Mr. Gutknecht was neither.

I'm with anonymous 3 points

Because I don't read her books or watch the shows on which she appears, I only get my news of AC is saying through forumns such as this. And dipping episodically into her craziness, it really does appear that she is losing control. Whether it's violating the right wing sacredness of 911 as she did with the widows or just saying things that make no sense as she does here, it gives me hope that eventually there will be no one with political ambition who will want to be seen anywhere near her.

On the other hand, playing the saxaphone can seem pretty gay, I guess. Clarinet would be worse (Was Benny Goodman gay?)

Yeah, what he said.

I agree with Independant. While Klingons value strength and aggressiveness, accuracy and straightforwardness are also ideals of Klingon behavior. The cabal in power clearly lack both of these. And there is no tolerance for those who send others out to fight wars they are not willing to fight themselves. This entire administration would be spaced immediately so as to not waste air and food.

Q'pla!

Wouldn't it be nice

Joe:

Lieberman didn't lose by a landslide but he lost all the same. I wonder how many of his "supporters" were republicans that crossed lines to vote in the demo primary. I routinely vote in the republican primary here in texas because that's the only way you have a voice.

I think it would be great to declare that the voters were too stupid or deluded by propaganda to have made an informed choice during and election and take a mulligan as it were and declare the results invalid until we made sure that everyone was properly and fairly educated. Of course in this case you and Lieberman are thinking Connecticut in 2006. I'm thinking nationally 2000 and, especially, 2004.

I'm with "Scared"

I initially read this as bit of media bashing and conspiracy satire and was much amused. Then I realized at the end that I was considering if the premise was, in fact, true. I've never trusted politicians, of any party, to really look after my well being; but to realize that the last few years have so trashed my confidence in the American government that I can willingly try on the tin-foil hat...that's really depressing.

What to do, what to do...

I was discussing the foriegn language requirement at my son's high school and suggested that first and foremost he needs to learn Spanish really well (He's OK at it already) as that can only help him get along in the world at hand. Then I suggested, if they have a program, that he learn Farsi to really make him appealing to many future employers, except of course the government because that would make too much sense.

Yes

Robert:

Yes, all us damn hippies are paying now for dreaming of a better, fairer world way back then and then forgetting about it until the trolls moved in. We have awoken in a strange bed with a scary partner and aren't sure how we got here or what we are supposed to do now.

PS: Love all the other comments so far. Why do regular folks "get it" and highly educated economists can't see that the numbers mean nothing unless you put them in a realistic context.

Like he said

mr. Maracini says it well (and should probably be put on speechwriting staffs). His reference to Sharpton is noteworthy. I usually like little of the content of Sharpton's speeches but I will listen to them because he is a good speaker. I know in my heart that there are many in congress whose views I share but I can't stand to listen to them wander back and forth while I wonder what the point is. America has been raised on sound bites and slogans. "Flip flop" did more to do in Kerry than the Swift boaters ever did.

Whatever works

Actually it's the "voto latino" part that will give them a rash. It sounds so...foriegn. Call it "Patriot Registration" and they won't notice.

Like they said in high school...

"If he likes Bush that much Hindraker should marry him". Oh, wait. That won't work until maybe the next administration.

Susan, susan, susan...

And now you have made that public knowledge, you traitor. Why do you hate America and want the turnips to win?

Make sure they get their money's worth

When they "tour" Iraq.

Congressmen should be required to stay at least a few days so they can have night after night disturbed by gunfire and sirens and spend a part of each day in the Expeditionary Hospital in Balad so they may visit their constituents as they go through triage.

Be prepared

Every democratic candidate, independants for that matter, too, should prepare a "How dare you!" response ad. Prepare a TV spot full of outrage at the lies, innuendo, and outright nonsense that is sure to come from their republican opponent. It needs to be strong. It needs to be the sort of response you want your dad to make if the neighbor calls your mom a whore. That angry. That insulted.

Then the moment it happens: whatever "it" is, you fine tune the details and roll it out over the print, blogs, and airwaves.

And then democrats will not be seen as weak.

Did you ever wonder?

So on the same page (or scroll, I guess) we have Harris, Biden, and Allen all saying absolutely ridiculous and insulting things. (And administration folks lying; but what else is new.)

Did you ever wonder if professional politicians have some kind of secret pool going about who can say the most stupid thing and get elected/re-elected anyway? If normal folks like us talked like the professional politicians of either party, we would be fired, or at least slapped alot. These aren't stupid people so they must be doing it on purpose.
