Surrender date?

When did this surrender date meme start up? Who exactly are we surrenduring to on the date we withdraw combat troops from the streets of Bagdhad? Is there a ceremony with a reception line to celebrate our "surrender"? Will there be a statue or commemorative coin? On the 30th we are still "winning" and on the 31st we are defeated because we surrendered? The administration and their lackeys need to be called on this everytime they try to use it. Stewart jumped on McCain for this last night and he likes the guy.

The only surrenduring going on is surrenduring to the inevitable: we have screwed up and our continued prescence makes it worse.

Victoria L

I am concerned about the violent islamic radical movement. I am also concerned about the violent Christian movement (Eric Rudolph, etc.). I don' lose sleep over either. More americans will die, directly or indirectly, of the lack of basic health care in the next 24 hours than will die in a terrorist attack in the next year (and I'm including those brave and loyal soldiers your people are using as human flypaper overseas as we speak.)

There will be other terrorist attacks. Some people are just no damn good and will do evil things to innocent people. What I really resent is the "pre-blame" strategy of the republicans who have done so much to bring us to where we are but wish no part of the blame for what is happening now, has happened in the past, or will happen in the future.

PS: I agree we shouldn't use terms like flyover state although why that is racist is a little unclear.

moranis guy

It isn't hypocrisy to say you're not going to get into a name calling contest, use a rather accurate insult, and then walk out. It's called strategy. Besides, we know how polite and respectful Cheney is of his peers.

I don't know where the 9% approval rating comes from either but I'm sure among non-troll salon readers that's accurate (if not too high an estimate). So again, not a lie, it's a strategy to make the Cheney camp say stuff like, "It's not true that only 9% of americans approve of the VP, most polls show him in the twenties!" as if that is something to be proud of.

You don't like any of because, for a change, you are the "do-ee" rather than the "do-er". Your shoulders must be sore from carrying their water for so long. Take a break. Listen to someone besides Rush. Read a book that Ann Coulter has never heard of. Your mind will clear and maybe you'll be a little less angry.

Hey Titus!

28 years air force (including 3 years where I was medical support for a marine recon unit in alaska) and I quit short of 30 because I couldn't stand my bosses in washington.

Nobody fighting overseas wants to think they are risking their lives for a lost cause. But in this case they are. This hideously planned and executed war was lost before the first tank rolled over the border.

The Army, Air Force and Marines won the Battle of Iraq 4 years ago. Bush lost the war of Iraqi stability pretty much at the same time and has been getting your brothers killed by the hundreds since then because he doesn't want to believe it's so.

Don't see Joe around too much anymore

maybe he finally joined the military to "put his money where his mouth is" in supporting the president's jihad.

Tiberius is the one that cracks me up now. Actually not a bad writer I will sometimes be reading and marvel at the well written irony/sarcasm until I realize "Holy crap! He's serious!"

I think gpanos is being sarcastic

But he's right on the money that "Sandy Berger! Sandy Berger!" is no doubt resonating around the right wing blogs as we speak. Like that has anything to do with potentially treasonous lapses in security by people WHO STILL HAVE THEIR JOBS AND SECURITY CLEARANCES!

Sorry about the shouting. I feel better now.

Maybe we should let it settle that if these breaches were people putting the documents in their pants, then it's ok with us "progressives". Anything else gets you put in jail. Works for me.

I guess, I have higher standards for my employees.

"and answered every question he could possibly answer". The dude could not recall any details about a meeting with the president at which this politically sensitive topic was discussed. If one of my subordinates cannot recall such an important meeting with me, I would ask which box they would like for me check on reasons for dismissal, "Liar" or "Incompetent". And then hand them the pink slip and move on.

"When you're president of the United States and you have this many folks that you are employing, it's a pretty small number that he's had to express full confidence in."

In a week full of misery at home and abroad, this line is the funniest thing I've seen this week. The president should have full confidence in everyone in his employ and should have to publicly express that about none of them. What a maroon.
