Original article: Why they fight

One of the differences between Repubicans and Democrats

Reid and Pelosi are publicly excoriated as traitors by the rank and file for not pushing time lines to get us out of Iraq in the first four months they are in the lead. This throws congressional approval ratings in the dumper.

Bush has all 3 branches of government locked up for 6 years and neither gets RvW overturned nor an anti-gay marriage ammendment passed and the religious right is merely disappointed that the struggle must go on. And the 30% base approval crowd grimly hangs on. I brought up the concept with one of my evangelical friends that they were being played and he was genuinely insulted that I would suggest good christians would play like this.

Now here is the stuff nightmares are made of

Maybe dick is just biding his time a bit longer. Unfortunately this is not a satire site.

Well, you know...

It would explain a lot.

Original article: Rudy Giuliani, unscripted

It's true.

I, too, might sound like a blithering idiot if suddenly dropped in front of a large crowd without a script.

But then again, I'm not running for president. Even he doesn't agree with all his "comittments"? Jeez.

So they were wrong again.

What a surprise!

Original article: We almost forgot!

I thought of donating a buck

Just so I could send my...er...greetings.

But I was afraid some a-hole at the RNC would take my credit card number and stick it to me. What would stop them? After all, laws are for chumps.

Original article: This time, Taylor answers

Just pick one, Ms. Taylor

A. "I don't have to tell you" (or Cheney will shoot me in the face)

B. "I don't remember" (because I am yet another grossly incompetent administration official)

C. "No" (which means I'm lying, of course)

Original article: Webb amendment blocked

I agree with Jason

They should have let the republicans try and filibuster this one. Who would have actually stood up to oppose this and give their next opponent a suitcase full of soundbites to use in their 2008/2010 ads? I suspect the line would have been short. I guess bush would have vetoed it then but then that's another chance when they would debate and vote on veto override to get further archival ammunition against these troop-hating republicans.

I kind of have a "friend of my enemy is also my enemy" view of Bush nominations

But he at least says several things I agree with about DTC advertising, US obesity, and health care access. Actually the things he is saying, including the condom remark, are rather un-republican.

If only the bush people didn't lie so damn much. I would be willing to give him a "wait and see" opportunity on gay and women's issues but I just can't trust anyone nominated by this administration.

And as for Carmona. Thanks for nothing. A public and dramatic resignation a year or two ago would have done ten times the work for the american people that his appearing on CNN now does.

I'd volunteer for the job

But DC gives me a rash. My confirmation hearings would prove entertaining for one and all, though.

Original article: Baby steps

"Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act"

I'd love to see one veto or vote against something called that.

Anonymous: I served my country for 28 years but there are certain things I just could not throw myself upon...even for the good of the nation.

I feel guilty now

that we made so much fun of "Baghdad Bob" during the gulf war. It turns out that some of his bombast was actually prescient and the guys with the white house logo behind their heads were (are) the delusional ones.

Elephantman

What are you talking about? If you don't have anything rational or relevant to say, don't.

Progressives are allowed to be amused when someone, way out of mainstream American politics, has people wanting to stamp "Gott mit Uns" on their belt buckles and hope that God will somehow be pleased to do what American voters will not.

This is not yet a theocracy and God, I hate to tell you, really doesn't care who wins.

The first thing you do when you move into a house that has been poorly kept up is fix the rotting wood, haul out the accumulated trash, and drive out the vermin in the attic. That's what the democrats have been doing for the last 6 months...and will probably need to be doing for the next year. Then they can paint the place.

PS: And just what did the republican congress do in the last 6 years? I mean besides passing the usual pork. I don't even see the anti-gay marriage amendment and repeal of Roe v. Wade that is their reason for being there anyways.

Do you really not see the difference between destroying an economic symbol (which still apparently has us crapping our pants and led us to enthusiastically support the wrong war) and attacking THE religious symbol of a significant part of the world. No, they aren't going to clench AK-47's in their teeth and swim over to kill our children. Extremists are likely, however, to kill any and all westerners in muslim majority countries they can find and permanently kick us out. Are you ready to do with out anything produced by Africa or the middle east? Are you ready to do without cooperation in war against terrorists throughout southern and central asia?

That tancredo would actually say these words out loud should void his application as a serious candidate.

Well said!

I was trying to come up with an analogy an old bigot like tancredo might understand but couldn't think of one while pretending to work. (Don't blog at work, kids!) Yours is perfect...especially since tancredo is catholic I believe.
