moranis guy

It isn't hypocrisy to say you're not going to get into a name calling contest, use a rather accurate insult, and then walk out. It's called strategy. Besides, we know how polite and respectful Cheney is of his peers.

I don't know where the 9% approval rating comes from either but I'm sure among non-troll salon readers that's accurate (if not too high an estimate). So again, not a lie, it's a strategy to make the Cheney camp say stuff like, "It's not true that only 9% of americans approve of the VP, most polls show him in the twenties!" as if that is something to be proud of.

You don't like any of because, for a change, you are the "do-ee" rather than the "do-er". Your shoulders must be sore from carrying their water for so long. Take a break. Listen to someone besides Rush. Read a book that Ann Coulter has never heard of. Your mind will clear and maybe you'll be a little less angry.

I am concerned about the violent islamic radical movement. I am also concerned about the violent Christian movement (Eric Rudolph, etc.). I don' lose sleep over either. More americans will die, directly or indirectly, of the lack of basic health care in the next 24 hours than will die in a terrorist attack in the next year (and I'm including those brave and loyal soldiers your people are using as human flypaper overseas as we speak.)

There will be other terrorist attacks. Some people are just no damn good and will do evil things to innocent people. What I really resent is the "pre-blame" strategy of the republicans who have done so much to bring us to where we are but wish no part of the blame for what is happening now, has happened in the past, or will happen in the future.

PS: I agree we shouldn't use terms like flyover state although why that is racist is a little unclear.

Surrender date?

When did this surrender date meme start up? Who exactly are we surrenduring to on the date we withdraw combat troops from the streets of Bagdhad? Is there a ceremony with a reception line to celebrate our "surrender"? Will there be a statue or commemorative coin? On the 30th we are still "winning" and on the 31st we are defeated because we surrendered? The administration and their lackeys need to be called on this everytime they try to use it. Stewart jumped on McCain for this last night and he likes the guy.

The only surrenduring going on is surrenduring to the inevitable: we have screwed up and our continued prescence makes it worse.

Oh, I don't know.

Sounds pretty treasonous me. My read from the administration is that anyone who isn't balls to the wall with the pre-emptive violent force thing is a commie, sissy, treasonous, terrorist-loving defeatocrat.

PS: To Ms Rice: Thanks for considering the possibility of being reasonable...you know, like a diplomat, but I'm afraid for you and the current gang after the last 6 years anything you do will be too little too late.

Credibility?

I'm sorry but credibility is so pre-911.

Richemery

I disagree. I think 2005 was a watershed year, at least for me. That was the year I decided that the administration was not just a bunch of arrogant, lying yabos but were actually criminally incompetent in their use and abuse of this nation's military and our democratic government. So I quit the Air Force. When people ask why I didn't stay an extra two years to max out my pension I tell them, "I couldn't stand my bosses."

I have nothing else to say about gonzales

that hasn't already been said.

But Wexler is my new hero for laying it out like that.

Looking the look

I agree there is an archtype mature white guy presidential "look". It's wrong, but it is.

As much as the some wingnuts love 24 for the flawed concept that torture gets results when you need it, I've wondered if one of the poison pills embedded in the show is the fact that they've had not one but two black presidents, both honorable men who served there country well. In fact the "old white guy" presidents and vice presidents have been some of the biggest weasels. Hopefully that's been tickling the subconcious of hardcore red staters.

Dealing with middle eastern and many asian countries will be difficult for a woman because of their cultural issues. I think her overall incompetence rather than her gender is what has led to Rice's failures in those areas, but the latter didn't help. Europe clearly has gotten over it and if Britain and Germany can field effective woman leaders (there's even a potential candidate in Russia!) then we should be able to. On the other hand, they are the ones most likely to have trouble dealing with an African American president because of THOSE longstanding prejudices.

What's the solution? Elect the brightest, most competent candidate whatever their religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, height, weight, hair, or shoe size may be and give them their shot to restore America's standing on the world stage. I can only think of a few of the republican candidates (I'm looking at you Brownback and Tancredo) who could possibly do worse than current presidential-looking guy in office.

You know, if we were still English...

With the 11/06 vote of "no confidence", Howard Dean would have been president for the last six months.

Ahhhh, to have that alternate universe machine.

Bozon,

They have no shame and even less a sense of irony when they open their mouths.

Dartvader,

If you wish to donate that corolla to my 18 year old son, I promise he'll take care of that "keeps on running" thing.

It is sad indeed...

that Jesus is probably unelectable.

I think Optimus Prime shows the flexibility necessary for rapidly changing world events so he has my vote.

"...doing things that even Gonzales thinks would be wrong."

Now that's a concept that sends chills up my spine.

He may not ever be president.

But he won't be forgotten. That's what it's all about for these guys anyways.
