not jhone. Don't blog at work. Bad habit and you make mistakes
Didn't get it.
Won't get it.
I think it's a delightful spectacle that could unfold in January. I've heard folks clamoring for their damn "up or down vote" for the last 6 years. Fine. Up or down vote it is. We'll give them what poor Harriet Meirs never had and take the whole panel, Tomlinson, Bolton, and any other incompetent, corrupt, or neo-fascist puppet that the boss wants to nominate and give them an up or down vote.
I vote....
But voters of both sides need to have faith in the system. Hopefully the democratic party will help in the legal fees. They should consider it an investment and this WILL come up again in 2008.
they at least try to do so with subtlety and grace. To basically say from the start, "We are building this and will man it with people who will write nice things" is a bit blatant, even for this group. On the other hand, I'm completely with Normanx that as long as it's done without public money, at least part of every wingnut dollar spent on this joke is money that isn't spent on elections and lobbying. I feel the same way about legal defense funds, too.
So I'm curious. Will they be allowed to take in new money and spend it on 2008 elections and just let this float...or go away? Or do they have to settle these debts first.
The idea that they went into debt to fund a losing battle (close only counts in horseshoes and all that) does tickle me though. The pockets, while deep, seem not to be infinitely so.
if it wasn't so painful.
Watched Inconvenient truth last nite and was quite impressed. But beyond the sense of ecologic urgency I felt a wistful sadness at what might have been if there hadn't been the craziness in florida. What might have been for a 6 year jump on global warming issues. What might have been for the US economy. What might have been for the strength and stature of the United States abroad.
I don't know. Gore and Obama in 2008 works for me.
Sad for them, Sad for their families, Sad for (in this case) their audiences; but that's the way it is. I used to get angry at such hypocrisy, injustice and arrogance and now, for folks like this, I just think "What a dick!" and move on to things I can change.
No, he should not have to check the green cards of everyone who mows his lawn or cooks his food. The problem is he has gone on public record that this is really, really, really important to him and that businesses should be tight on control and hiring. Having said that, it would behoove him to make sure that the low-bid on his lawn service is because they are efficient and market savvy rather than because they aren't paying social security, workman's comp, and/or whatever other taxes they are supposed to be paying on their crew.
It's the glass house thing. I don't think it will hurt him though. Didn't take down Bennett, O'Reilly, Limbaugh and a host of others.
But there may be some fine print that the person to be pardoned cannot currently be an administration official, you know, so you couldn't use the pardon to cover up a crime. If so, we may expect a lot of folks to bolt while the prez is still in office so he can legally pardon these fine private citizens. I'm still waiting for Cheney to resign and for McCain to be appointed VP as part of the 2008 positioning and to clear the way for Dick's Halliburton/KBR related pardon.
Surely you wouldn't want to deny the man his "victory lap".
I'm sure it's all being paid for by the RNC anyway. I mean, they wouldn't really want to stick the American Taxpayer with the tab for this senseless trip. Would they?
Yes, the Supreme Court is a concern but remember that next year we can give them their damned "up or down votes" they kept screaming for and, if it is not a reasonable candidate, it will be "down".
Hell, I'll double it. Somebody should have at least asked if an "impressionistic answer" is the same as a lie.
about this being a money laundering manuver. We need a better anthrax vaccine, no question. My bet is that Vaxgen, the multimillion dollar company which apparently has never succeeded in producing anything, probably has one or more republican "pioneers" on its board of directors. Just another case at the money trough where contracts were let according to ideology rather than demonstrated ability to get something done.
