Pretending that the GOP has somehow brought about some catastrophic wave of corruption into politics is a very naive conceit.
I'll make it simple for ya'll: representation + abstraction + authority = corruption
The Dems and Reps are just two pigs feeding from the same trough. Just because one's painted red and the other is blue, doesn't make them any less greedy.
Historically it HAS always happened when conservatives have come into power. It's also happened when moderates have come into power, and when communists have come into power, and when fascists have come into power.
Hmmm, what's the unifying link here?
Klytus is salon's resident troll. It's best to just let him continue on his antagonistic and desperately attention-seeking way.
I agree that I haven't really felt any blockbuster fatigue myself. If you allow yourself to listen to hype, then sure. But it's not my job to consume film marketing and I'll only pay attention to a cinematic product if it interests me.
Actually, it wasn't really offensive, as it was built on the worst and most idiotic cliches about our culture and accent. It was more like somebody looked at a poster of Crocodile Dundee and thought that we were actually anything like that!
And RDJ's accent was awful... AWFUL! I can't believe he actually said "crikey". I've yet to see a good version of Common, Cultivated or even Broad Australian from an American actor/actress. I think it has something to do with their inability to soften vowels.
You guys actually think Obama is bringing back "hope" or "honour" to your country's system? I truly feel sorry for you.
Here we go again with the Punch and Judy show. Same as it ever was. Orwell weeps for you all from beyond the grave.
I've got news for you. The Democratic Party are a pack of jackals too. You always have to be a monster to get to a position of power in representational democracy. I was addressing the general tone of both salon.com and other liberal websites who somehow see Obama as some kind of "different" politician. This is a sop piece. One that again just carries on the blind charade of "choice" or "power" for the average citizen. And btw that's what the Orwell reference was about as he was particularly incisive about the moral horror of representational party politics.
She gave a nice speech. I could give a fuck. Nothing will change. Same as it ever was. That's not snooty or cynical. That's realistic. I just get frustrated that a website such as salon which has quite a few intelligent and reasoned journalists is playing the same moronic game as everyone else instead of raising real questions or looking for real answers. This is not the best we can do. It's time we stopped pretending it was.
