  • My eyes rolled so hard I could see my own brain

@Mickey: Yes, that's it- he's got a huge ego. I mean, to think that a person running for the highest office in the land didn't want to use the power of media and history to explain his views.

Next thing you know, McCain will stop comparing himself to Reagan, Bush will stop saying that the enemy we face now is greater than any enemy in history (I'm sorry - but that one goes to the Nazi's of WWII), and every politician will put themselves before lime green backgrounds.

If the mayor doesn't have a problem with it, you can stop waving your little white hanky, protesting how shocked and offended you are any second now before we have to fetch the smelling salts for your hysterics.

  • Look out!

Lou Dobbs just heard about the ad - duck! He's gonna bloooowwwww!

  • You gotta love how lame the McCain campaign response to this is

    The McCain response:

In the Senate, Barack Obama has voted in lockstep with President George W. Bush nearly half the time, including the Bush-Cheney Energy bill which gave close to 3 billion dollars in new giveaways to Big Oil -- a terrible policy that John McCain opposed. The truth is Barack Obama’s plan is a job killing machine that ignores the struggling economy and raises taxes on family savings, social security and small businesses.

I love that intro - "Well, so what if McCain voted with Bush 95% of the time - *Obama* voted with Bush 50% of the time! So there - Obama's just as bad! And when Obama voted to give breaks to alternative energy in exchange for giveaways to Big Oil, McCain stood up and said 'No way - we want to give tax breaks to *only* Big Oil - so there!"

The last part nearly made me spit water out of my nose. A "job killing machine." I have this image of McCain making a commercial with Obama as the Terminator any day now.

"He'll kill your jobs, destroy your family, force gay marriage upon you, surrender to terrorists - and that's just within the first 100 days. Fear - the Obaminator!"

  • Alcyone - I'm with you

My definition of a negative ad isn't "My opponent wants to do/has done X. I want to do Y."

A negative ad *is* "My opponent is a poopy-head. You don't want to vote for a poopy-head."

A negative ad is also "My opponent said he likes to eat babies," when that's a lie.

    So in a nutshell:

Contrasting two opinions, actions, or analysis is not a negative ad, even if it makes the other person look bad.

A negative ad is lying about or insulting your opponent (or their followers).

  • Don't fear the associations

What I see from people here is "Oh, noes - don't get McCain on associations - Obama's got worse!"

Obama has passing notice with people. McCain's threat of "Don't you dare or else I'll do it to you too!" is a shame - MCCAIN'S ALREADY DOING IT!

So instead of letting McCain do all of the attacking because you fear his counterattack, DO IT ANYWAY, because McCain's going to do it no matter what you do!
