  • Interesting

[Read the article: Cheney on trial]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm not so sure that some of those questions would be asked that way (such as the use of the word "false Nigerian claims" - but the substance is there.

Cheney will be in a hard spot either way. If he buries Libbey, then he risks having Libbey turn on him and possibly Rove - and if that happens, especially in either 2006 or 2008 during an election year, it could hurt the Republicans hard.

On the either side, if he tries to protect Libbey, it will look like he's trying to manipulate the game. I'm not sure that the calls to Bush to not pardon Libbey will work - this administration has never stopped at doing whatever they think they can get away with, but I'm not sure the other Republicans who will be running for office want to see their party look even worse.

Either way, it should be interesting, and scores the major point that all politicians - from Reagen to Clinton to Bush and Cheney always seem to forget:

Telling the truth about something you did wrong gets you in far less trouble then lying about it - even if it wasn't that bad.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

  • I - er - blech

[Read the article: Sushi, maki or me?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Maybe I'm just squeemish, but as much as I love sushi, and as much as I'm sure the lady would have showered, the whole idea of eating something that's been sitting on somebody's body - blech. And this is from a guy will eat unagi by the plateful.

Then again, after cleaning up my toddler's baby drool, it's hard to say what a person's limits are.

  • It's kind of sad

[Read the article: Judy Miller retires, but she's still got more to say]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's too bad, really - once upon a time, she was a pretty good journalist. I'm not sure what let her buy into the falsehoods and hype of the administration. Hope that it would turn out to be the Next Big Story blinded her to simple fact checking? Did she find herself so far in it was either "stay the course" and fail or admit that maybe - just maybe she totally screwed up?

Either way, good riddance. Maybe she will redeem herself someplace else. Maybe she'll wake up one day and say "What the hell was I thinking, anyway?" Odds are, she'll just blame other editors at the Times for "not trusting her" or "not seeing how important it was!".

Of course, this is just my opinion. I could be wrong.

  • So what's the democrats plan?

[Read the article: What's the opposite of coattails?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

They should just run under "We're not the Republicans" - though that was really W's campaign the first time around, before he discovered "vote for me or terrorists will kill you!"

It would be nice to see a coordinated national plan, like the Contract with America. Something popular, ringing with the "we're going to go pass these important bills, and if the President vetoes them, you'll know what he's about".

What - I can't think off the top of my head. But something that really sets the Dems apart, so they can say "Here's the goal - and we'll get rid of corruption while we're at it."

  • The Daily Show coverage

[Read the article: The White House counterattack shoots -- and misses -- again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Perhaps someone wiser (or who has a better memory than myself) may recall a "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" episode that dealt with this. It was a shot of Mr. Cheney on (I believe) "Meet the Press" lying with "I never said that there was a link between Al Queda and Iraq".

Stewart then proceeded to show a whole slew of campaign and TV show moments when Cheney said *exactly* that, over and over and over again.

If anybody has the link to that video, I will be an incredibly happy person if you could share it with me - send it to john.c.hummel.removespamhere@gmail.com

  • For some reason, I think of Jon Stewart

[Read the article: Gibson's true grit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Who, when he was on Crossfire (before CNN killed it like it deserved), he told Tucker "If you're going to compare your *news show* to a *comedy show*, then you have other issues."

Granted, my verbage is not exact, but - close enough.

  • I feel a little bit better

[Read the article: What's in a hat?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I started thinking he was ripping off my hat. I put a comment on my blog how only "good guys" could wear that kind of hat.

Now, I see he's playing the "redeemed by God" card that all criminals start to play. "You can't send me to jail - I believe in God now. Honest!"

    *Sigh.*
