The only thing more pathetic than an expensive wedding (when half of them will end in divorce) is the resort of gay couples to elaborate weddings as well. I get ill looking at the smiling faces of two males or two females in the NY Times wedding section, as well as the notice that some female rabbi (how did females get made rabbis?) or a minister of some sort has united them in holy miseronium.

The best thing the liberals have going for them is the current economic situation. The attempt to convince Americans that they are stock holders and not workers has failed. Their 401K plans are tanking and social security and medicare become more important than ever. But European style conservatism is not much different from liberalism in fact. McCain could be helped as much as Obama by all this -- if he breaks frankly with the failed Right.

As long as Obama did not seem black he did well. Once the Rev. Wright affair broke and his very black wife became more visible the black issue intruded. Obama can only win if he is considered non-black, by which I mean post-racial. The country is not post-racial but it could accept a post-racial president. What it cannot accept is a black president. Just imagine the feelings of most whites when they imagine a black woman as first lady. It is intolerable!

McCain's handlers seem to think he does best in town hall settings and worst in speeches. But his appearance the other day at a town hall showed him stiffly walking around and looking very frail.
