according to Camille

Camille is always refreshing. She says often what is uncooth and politically incorrect. But she also is not infallible. Tim Russert's virtues were undoubtedly exaggerated but the rule is: de mortuis nil nisi bonum. I see no need to make fun of the funeral hoopla, NBC wanted to take good care of its own.

As for WASPS, it is time to give it up. They have little importance left and we miss their good points: politesse, common sense, good taste. I prefer them to screeching Italians and other Latins and sarcastic Jews.

Original article: Barack by the books

presidential books

One book or books Obama has clearly not read involve scientific biblical scholarship. His religious views are very unintellectual.

Edwards for VP?

It's becoming clear that John Edwards is an ego maniac.

death takes all

The correct phrase is: De mortuis nil nisi bonum.

It would appear that gays are pretty viciously intolerant towards their opponents.

mccain and obama on Israel

What Obama and McCain both need to tell American Jews and what they will NOT tell them is that AIPAC-style support of Israel guarantees Israel's demise. Only compromise with the Palestinians will give Israel a future. But tell that to an 80-year old Alte Kocker in Boca Raton.

Israel issue in the election

Neither Obama nor McCain will free himself from the Israel Lobby.

gay Obama

He'll carry California in any case but this position will hurt him elsewhere.

Original article: "Wanted"

movie wanted

Why are these leftist intellectual always making us worry about movies. Movies are for fun. They don't have to be taken seriously. WANTED is just fun: a wimp getting even. It is not necessary to worry about its meaning or its existential relevance.

forfeits?

Has Kamiya forgotten that Barack is black.

The Catholic Russert

I confine myself to one observation which may well be found nowhere else. Russert, like his colleague Chris Matthews, is the shining bright face of American Catholicism: tolerant, caring, rational, learned, friendly. The other face of Catholicism is represented today by Pat Buchanan and in the past by Father Coughlin: bigoted, anti-semitic, narrow, anti-intellectual, and leaning towards Fascism. Thanks to John XXIII and the Second Vatican Council Catholics like Russert and Matthews could emerge.

osama obama

The fact that apparently rational people can even entertain the notion that Obama has Muslim and terrorist connections is a tribute to the fact that they are unwilling to tell the truth: they don't want a black man in the WH. It would be more honest and more helpful if they would simply admit to being racist.

fathers day award

I agree: for foisting his awful son on us George Bush 41 deserves the title worst father in history.

McCain

McCain's handlers seem to think he does best in town hall settings and worst in speeches. But his appearance the other day at a town hall showed him stiffly walking around and looking very frail. Probably his wartime injuries are to blame, certainly understandable, but his appearance was very off-putting. I think speeches are better. All in all, he is lucky he is running aginst a black man with an aggressively black wife: otherwise he would quickly be buried.

What do you think Andrew Jackson would have said about this ruling?

Original article: Michelle Obama Watch

michelle obama

Americans will not contemplate with complacency a black woman running round on the White House carpet with bare big black feet. Period. Unless she is there to do the cleaning.

Original article: Men, talk among yourselves

boring men

Boys and men can only bond around sports talk, otherwise homoerotic issues may arise. Sports talk is inherently boring and that is why men are boring. They can only talk about work or sports and both bore both them and their listeners. There is no hope for men until they get some cultural interests other than sports -- and at an adolescent age.

The appointment of judges will be an important election issue after this awful ruling on behalf of terrorists coming after the California Supreme Court ruled on behalf of crazy gay marriages.

choosing a vp

I think I prefer the original practice of the second choice of the voters becoming vp. Jefferson was Adams vp and Burr Jefferson's (first term). That would have made Gore vp in 2000 and Kerry in 2004.

michelle

Big bottom, big feet, like all black women.

GOP tactics

Anyone who thought the Republican party would give up its Goebbels-like tactics just because McCain is running is a fool. Ever since FDR was accused of being a Communist the GOP has run the same advertisement: the Democrats are subversive Communists, language differing from decade to decade, but always the same message. And of course frequently it has worked. This was the Nazi innovation which was brilliant: a lie repeated enough becomes believable.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 06:24 AM

impeachment

Of course Bush and Cheney deserve to be impeached. But how pathetic that it has to be a charge led by a real lunatic like Kucinich. Where is the responsible left?

Original article: Obama's best veep choice

camille, michelle, and barack

Camille is right about the hate-filled talk shows but what they show is the susceptibility of Americans to this kind of garbage. Obama has a real problem: in case you didn't get it, HE IS BLACK.

Original article: The mix master

Obama's black problem

As long as Obama did not seem black he did well. Once the Rev. Wright affair broke and his very black wife became more visible the black issue intruded. Obama can only win if he is considered non-black, by which I mean post-racial. The country is not post-racial but it could accept a post-racial president. What it cannot accept is a black president. Just imagine the feelings of most whites when they imagine a black woman as first lady. It is intolerable!
