Age of self deceit

We seem to be living in the age of self deceit...where what we wish to be true, we actually believe to be true. We select our friends and groups that think like we do, never giving ourselves the opportunity to encounter cognative dissonace that may allow us to grow. As a nation we are so divided that I am deeply concerned for our future. Those in positions of power shamelessly use this to achieve their goals for their benefit and our detriment.

Infallable word of god?????

Wow; After telling us all that every word is gods' true bidding, these silly folks now want us to swallow the idea that they can change and twist those very same words? Curiouser and curiouser said Alice.

History well documented

There is an excellent book all medical professionals(as well any concerned citizen) as should to be required to read. In "The Nazi Doctors", Germany's history of it's medical profession being used as a tool to facilitate the "final solution" is laid out in horrifying detail for us to study.

This is what happens when the wrong people are allowed to gain power in an otherwise decent society. We as American citizens need to accept and recognize our complicity in these deeds, not just play the blame game with the morally spineless officials involved.

More Study????

I always laugh when this group of folks recommends "more study". These poeple have been "studying" the bible for 2000 years!! What have'nt they managed to discover in all that time? I found the "critical" thinking skills comment particularly amusing. Thanks to all the Discovery Center people for the continued fun. Go read the Dover, PA. court transcript to see their sophistry completly dismantled.

Toxic personality

It's like watching a guy at the local AA meeting who has just joined the discussion group. The self-deluding talk that he's not the problem, it's those around him that "make" him behave this way, classic self deception. He knows the drill well, hell he's used it all his life to avoid responsibility for his actions. Well now he's killed a lot of people, wrecked out nations' reputation and enabled the crash of our, and others, economy. Please get professional help sir, and stay away from any position of authority where you can ruin anyone or anything you come in contact with. You are toxic to life itself.

It's about fear

It's about fear. The church hierachry fears becoming an increasingly irrelevant power structure. With the progression of history the religious "true believers" find themselves increasingly marginalize and it scares the hell out of them. Pun intended.

Yep, A Liberal

I live just next to one of the most conservative districts in our country, in one of the most conservastive of states. I've always admitted to being a liberal when the discussions I've been in, turn political. They often are astounded, I reply, yep a liberal.

God of the gaps

As an atheist I'm always astounded by people who feel the need to insert some mystical entity or force into the gaps where science has yet to find an answer. I myself am always in awe of my absolute good fortune to be alive and experiencing my natural surroundings. How things are nit together in such subtle ways, but to attribute this to some mystical "other" is not needed. The universe does not have a plan for us, whether we exist or not is of no consequence at all to the universe. This does not mean that your life has no meaning, you give it that yourself by how you live and interact with the world around you.

Mr. Kaufman is on the slippery slope of "intellegent design" here. Though I defend his right to believe as he will, he should keep in mind Humes' premise the one should investigate all worldly possibilities (scientific exploration) before positing that something from outside this world is the cause.

Joe will go away

Joe Lieberman will be up for re-election soon, if he has betrayed his constituency they will dunp him soon enough. That is how he will eventually learn he does or does not speak for the average American. It's all in the Constitution, you can read it there.

As for the rest of these crazies and their ardent followers, one just has to point out their errors, knowing that the power of their message comes from the ignorance of their audience. Unfortunately in our country there is a lot of fertile ground for them to sow. The last 8 years stand as stark evidence of the power inherent in harnessing that very idea.

Be Afraid

Be afraid, be very araid....this is how we decide the future of our counrty? Well, if you are Republican I guess so. Move past your fear. Recognize that your party has seriously injured this great nation. Do something positive and pitch in to help the healing.

It's in Gods' Hands

So...when Obama wins it must be the way God wants it. You McCain and Palin supporters will have to accept it. His will be done and all that malarky.

What??!!!

Looking over the history of the Supreme Court and the first amendment I can find no such implied "right" Sarah. You have the right to say stupid things, the media has the right to point it out. That's the way it works, you betcha!

What took you so long?

The Republicans have been engaged in questionable (legal, ethical, intellectual, and moral) antics for the last 8 years!! It took you this long to have your epiphany. Well, thanks for finaly figuring out your former employers are unworthy of yor support.
