Check with you Ob/gyn, I will leave it there.

I understand this is tricky but,

absolute risk reduction measures mortality: death. That is the metric of this panel and study: mortality. Death.

I am not sure why, pride perhaps, you want to go round about this but mortality reduction is the only metric the panel examined.

From here I suggest you go to your ob/gyn and have a talk. dont' let your need to not look simple outflank your abiity to get the best information. you are too upset to hear it on a post board.

Read all the credible news accounts, talk to your doc and don't worry about not fully understanding mortality reduction. The report was intened for MDs to translate, and I fear I sent you to the souce without the equipment to understand this and dont' worry: that is not a measure of your intelligence. You have not been trained to understand this and again I know you'd like me to hash it out for you but this is NOT the place to do that. Ask your ob/gyn.

In the meantime: Salon should run a correction! 15% reduction in death is not nothing.

I take no position other than: don't lie to women!

Fancynancy

the 14 and 15% relates to risk "for DEATH due to breast cancer" --exact words used, not by me, but in the report.

they measured mortality.

Perhaps it was a mistake to send you there as the report is very science speak.

this is not the place to help u understand the report. Time magazine, the San Francisco Chronicle and the NYTimes have all reported that this is a measure of risk of dying.

If you read my posts i have not said if i am for or against screening in any fashion.

Again: I am outraged that a so-called journalist has lied to her readers about the facts of the panel's findings.

How can women make informed choice if unctuous journalists lie to women. so condescending i don't know where to start!

this is NOT the place to rec screening or not. I can only state over and over again : Babs lied. Salon should run a correction!

benefits must be honestly portrayed!

Lulu you should feel any way you please about completing your treatment. I wish you the best. Surely we need more and better date on prevention and exactly who we should treat. Because no doctor in the world can point out who will and who will not progress once a cancer has been detected (at lower stages--stage iv is a different story, of course)we have to work with the tools at hand and knowledge to date.

I am enraged that a so-called journalist would make a patently false statement to women about the benefits of screening under 40. There are harms and benefits, in this population. But!!!!!!!to lie and say there is no benefit is an outrage of the worst sort.

There IS benefit, and I worry that women reading this story will take her words as true when they are not.

Babs has sold women downstream in her lust for universal care. Health care reform must come about honestly. For the love of God, don 't lie to women to advance a cause. Women deserve better than that!

find that expert and stop with the red herringsg

back off topic you go. 14% and 15% are from the gvt. task force meta-analysis. one percent diff, you can't get away from it, even if you want to spin it differently. it still is a one percent diff. I didn't come up with it and am not trying to spin it. I just take it from HHS report and present it to show BABs lied.

But don't change the subject. My challenge was and remains on this board the accuracy of BaBs statement.

It is FALSE. Period.

take my dare: find one single MD in the U.S. who says screening women in 40s doesn't save lives.

Just one, DARE You!

When you have done that we can continue!

Let's don't expect readers to do more here than stay with what a govt. task force found.

Pay attention readers. I am ONLY giving you numbers that the task force posted on HHS web site. BR is asking you to take her spin on this with out any credientials other than personal motivation.

I will only give you the numbers a group of experts came up with, not more not less. Beware of medical advice from a parent's bedroom.

BaBs lied to you. Easily verified. In fact there should be a retraction if Salon is professional enough.

In the meantime BR can keep up scare tactics for reasons known only to her.

But pay attention: the proof is in the pudding. She will not find on expert to say Babs statement was true! NOT one, she will come back and throw red herrings all day long but she will ignore that FACT that Babs lied and the statement is false!
