Drink up me hearties, yo ho!

I thoroughly enjoyed The Curse of the Black Pearl, bought the DVD and have rewatched several times. The story and the ending left me happy and satisfied. I didn't feel the need for sequels, so I waited and rented Dead Man's Chest from a Red Box for a dollar. I fast forwarded through most of it. Based on that experience and the reviews of number 3, I will wait til this one hits the Red Box as well.

Re: Where do I even start?

I couldn't have said it better myself! First, I am so sick of irresponsible women getting pregnant. Where is the pill? Where are the condoms? What happened to safe sex? WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN??? And second, nobody that looks like Katherine Heigl is going to have a one night stand with a loser that looks like Seth Rogen (sorry, Seth, but even you know it's not like that in real life). I don't care if the movie is hilarious. I won't be watching it. Oh, BTW, I didn't read the review either.

Thoughts on gift-giving

First, I loved Allie's letter. She nailed everything and I'm still laughing.

Second, the Duke of URL makes a very valid point about unused gift cards. At least they don't expire. I used to HATE gift certificates that expired 6 months from the date of purchase. I'm busy, I don't have time to shop or get a facial!@!#

But thanks for the lovely thought!

Original article: I don't believe in atheists

I won't be reading Hedges book

I am an atheist because I can find no personal reason to believe in a god. I did stumble in my absence of faith once when my hair was perfect for my 20 year high school reunion, and I wondered for a moment, Could there be? Naaaaaah. It was the science of electric rollers and hair dryers.

I think Hedges is funny in comparing us to the religious fundamentalists. We lack the organization that could make us dangerous, even if you accept his ridiculous point of view. I'm used to being attacked, shunned, horrifying to others...even George Bush the first who said that atheists were not patriots and should not be allowed to be citizens...so one more attack on my beliefs will have no consequence.

Hedges says not believing in sin is dangerous. I don't believe in the concept of sin. Sin is not based on right and wrong, good and evil; it is based on a belief in a god, and on following or not following the supposed rules and constructs of that god. So, no, I don't believe in sin. I do believe that a lot of wrong and evil has been done in the name of god by his various interpretors. Yet, it's not considered a sin by the side benefiting from the action.

Hedges also assumes that atheists are in bed with the neocons and in favor of war, especially pre-emptive war, and really especially the war in Iraq. Huh? This guy is considered an intellectual?

As another letter writer said, this is a silly article. Hedges book is probably a silly book. He takes two authors, that he has personal as well as philosophical differences with, and declares that all atheists are dangerous. I read Letter to a Christian Nation by Harris (I wish all Christians would!). I read The God Delusion by Dawkins (he is a god! just kidding!!! difficult read, but great book). I haven't read Hitchins...he can be a little pushy. I won't be reading Hedges book.

Sitting_At_Home_Drinking_Coffee

I am amazed that this guy's letter was selected by the editors. In addition to the misspelling and poor grammar, the letter contains a font of misinformation and a lot of opinion offered as fact. The author obviously thinks of himself as an armchair intellectual. He not only presumes to tell us how MMO thought, but he portends to know what all "new" atheist think and lumps us all into one category (with all other fundamentalists!). I may be a new atheist, but this guy is just another know-it-all sitting at home drinking coffee and contributing little if anything to the discussion.

Original article: Knock it off, Paul Begala

Keep it up, Paul Begala

I am one of Hillary's 18 million cracks in the glass ceiling, and I didn't put it there so an inexperienced, unqualified member of my gender could be a heart attack away from the presidency. The selection of Sarah Palin is an insult to Hillary, an insult to women, and an insult to all concerned Americans. It is even a joke to call her a beauty queen. She won a beauty pageant in an itty bitty town in Alaska. I feel sure her political victories were merely popularity contests. Her selection has convinced me that John McCain is a certified lunatic. My greatest fear now is that he could win this election. The world must truly be laughing at us.

Where are the intelligent Republicans?

Where are the intelligent Republicans? I know there have to be some, somewhere. This whole situation brings more meaning to the saying "I think, therefore I am a Democrat."

Where are the anti-war republicans? Where are the socially moderate republicans? Where are the pro-choice republicans? Is there anybody in there???

Get your facts straight.

Christopher 1988 needs to get his facts straight before assigning credit and/or blame to the wrong people.

Too Die For

The thought has occurred to me, but this movie illustrates it perfectly. Sarah Palin and the extreme religious right begin to think that John McCain is holding them back, pulling them down...

Forget Facebook, Tell your friends and family!

How distant we have become from each other! Or have we always been? Why do you need Facebook or any similar venue to tell the people you care about, about yourself? Yes, some people will have meaningful lists...many people, in fact. But wouldn't it be more meaningful expressed in a more intimate format.
