But, I would bet that most Americans have never encountered the last name of "Sotomayor" before, so I say that, in that case, you find out how it's pronounced and that's the pronuniciation you use.

This isn't much different than, oh, I don't know...say, Barack Obama. I know that I had never encountered this name before 2004. I heard the correct pronunciation, and it's the one I continue to use. I don't see it as a problem. But then, I'm not an idiot.
