Funny how you manage to come in with something completely off-topic at just the right moment time after time. Hmmm... could it be that... perhaps that you... are really just... Naaa, I'm gonna let it go. Don't wanna let myself get as paranoid as... well... people who see black helicopters everywhere.
One hour before the final ebay bid came in on the letter Harry Reid and 40 other Democratic Senators sent to Rush Limbaugh’s boss at Clear Channel -- the one denouncing the Media Matter’s "phony soldier" fantasy, Harry Reid took to the Senate floor in a comically transparent attempt to glom onto the credit for raising $2,100,100 for the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, which provides college scholarships for the children of Marines and law enforcement officials killed in action.
Groveling at the podium, Reid actually admitted that the donation, “...provides scholarship assistance to children of Marines and federal law enforcement personnel whose parent dies in the line of duty, as well as health care assistance for disabled children of fallen troops. What could be a more worthwhile cause? And I think it's really good that, um, this money on eBay is going to be raised for this purpose… Rush Limbaugh should know that this letter that they're auctioning is going to be something that raises money for really a worthwhile cause.”
Duh, yes, I guess Limbaugh KNOWS, Harry. It was, after all, HIS idea, not yours.
Then Harry proceeded to use the pronoun “We” as much as possible in a last-ditch effort to elbow his way in and share the credit.” My God, it was disgusting.
What Harry doesn’t realize as he desparetely grasps for a few scraps of credit in the aftermath is that the only reason this letter fetched $2,100,100 was because it’s a quintessential piece of history, demonstrating an abuse of power by the Democratic Congress in attacking a private citizen for asserting his right to free speech. This, despite the fact that Limbaugh was taken out of context by Hillary Clinton's Media Matters in the first place.
Earth to Harry Reid, Earth to Harry Reid: No other letter you’ve written would ever fetch this amount of dough, except of course, in bizarro world. Wait, I take that back. That's where Harry lives, isn't it?
As Limbaugh said after hearing Harry’s pathetic suck-up: “After besmirching me and smearing me by name personally from the Senate floor, (Reid) gets hold of the CEO of my syndication partner and asks him to "confer" with me about something Senator Reid thought was said that was improper? Words? First Amendment? Free speech? That, sir, is an abuse of power. That is why your letter is historic, not because you signed it, not because 40 other people signed it, not because you wrote it. It is because of what that letter represents: a full-fledged, undeniable, 100% abuse of power, and that's how this letter will be remembered by historians forever.”
And $2,100,100 says Limbaugh's got this one right.
By the way, Harry never once mentioned the fact that that Limbaugh was matching the final bid with his own money before making the donation, bringing the grand total to a whopping $4,200,200. Or the fact that Limbaugh has invited Harry Reid and the 40 Democratic Senators who wasted taxpayer time and money composing and signing the letter to match the final bid too. But I doubt he'll be hearing from the likes of them. They're probably too busy glued to Hillary Clinton's Media Matters, so they can get the next story wrong, too.
Yes, Rush Limbaugh — Joan’s so-called “bully” — has now survived the bullying tactics of our Democratic Congress on a private citizen, only to turn the tables on them and make them look like the complete morons they are. And that's quite an accomplishment for someone Joan still tries to persuade us -- “is losing his marbles.”
Okay, Ktwdawg, it's time to change the subject. And then you can take some more time to answer him again, too, Joan.
"If your earnest defense of Mr. Limbaugh is truly a cause close to your heart, there are much larger venues online in which to plead your case."
Yes, yes, Ktwdawg... there are... but why not here? I assume, therefore... according to you... that this is place with a very narrow-minded venue. But how in the world would YOU take it upon yourself to speak to that, dawg? Are you an editor? A publisher? Because real editors and publishers always look for oppossing points of view. And readers (at least, readers who want to be engaged with every point of view) welcome that too.
So why, oh why, were your comments on Joan's "article" so off-topic in the middle of a dialogue about Rush Limbaugh? And why, in fact, were your comments SO completely off-topic that even the most mentally-challenged individual could clearly see that their purpose was to change the subject. I mean, why would you ask Joan to do a story on Telcom's in the middle of this thread? Which is not to say that I expect to get an honest answer from you, at this point. Or ever.
And then, in an event so rare, Joan actually responded to you in the middle of your totally off-topic post. Oh, well, I suppose you'll call me paranoid for this observation, but for anyone who takes the time to backtrack, it will be clear -- or at the very least really, really, really weird. Personally, I chalk it up to a combination of both.
Sorry, if you can't take it when Limbaugh turns your heroes into fools, dawg. But why does that make you want to "uninvite" me to this site? Would you rather just sit in a closed room listening to people who agree with you all the time? How sad. But I guess I can understand that now. Because it seems like Salon.com is what that's all about.
Have a nice day.
