Original article: When filth is not enough

@ Joan –– "Watching him (DeLay) Wednesday, I started thinking, maybe it takes vermin to know vermin."

Errr... Wouldn't that would mean you were watching DeLay smear Obama and it made you think it would take vermin (like DeLay) to know vermin (like Obama)? Do you even read the drivel you pass off as journalism before you post it, Joan?

And speaking of faux journalism, Joan, do you still stand by your report in your "McCain Loses Again" article that Joe the Plumber is a "wealthy Toledo businessman?"

@ AnnieW -- Sarcasm? Not. Joan is simply a hack.

If you go back and actually read Joan's "McCain Loses Again" article, she refers to Joe the Plumber as a "wealthy Toledo businessman." She wrote this article the day after the Joe the plumber story exploded as a result of the second debate. At that point, no one knew anything about Joe yet. So there could not have been any sarcasm at all on Joan's part when she called him a "wealthy Toledo businessman." The fact is, she didn't know who he was. And rather than doing her job and finding out the facts about him before including him in her article, she simply made up what suited her. You see, Joan is quite a lazy journalist. No, on second thought, I take that back. Joan really isn't any kind of journalist at all -- not by any stretch of the imagination.

@ JimAK1 -- Think? Here at salon? When commenting on a Joan Walsh article? You must be new here, Jimbo.

Salon readers don't need to think here, Jimbo. They simply need to bow at the altar of THE ONE. HE can do no wrong, you see. If the numbers for HIS economic plan do not add up... well, that just doesn't matter. In fact, even if HIS economic plan is a recipe for a genuine long-term depression... well, that just doesn't matter either.

What's more, if Salon readers should actually need to get something THE ONE says explained to them because it appears to be controversial, never fear, Jimbo, Joan Walsh will always be here to tell to us all what Obama "really said" -- as she did in her post three articles back called "What Obama Really Said in 2001."

It's a very tidy little echo chamber here, Jimbo. Probably because Joan's such a "pro."

PS: If you dare to raise an opposing point of view here at Salon, be prepared to be labeled a "troll." Believe me, I know. I've been trying to engage my political opposition here in intelligent discourse for two years now. Two years, mind you, and I'm still singled out as a "troll." And yet these are the same people who've been claiming to want to "reach across the aisle" to folks like me once Obama is elected. Why is it then that they've consistently trashed me in every way possible for two years now? Nonetheless, I'm sure their attitude about those who share an opposing point of view will magically evaporate the day THE ONE is elected. Right? They wouldn't be lying about things like that, would they? Either would THE ONE, right?

Right back @ Joan -- from Virtue

Let me set the record straight too, Joan. I see you published my first letter to you among the comments here, the letter in which I called you dogface. (My, my, horror of horrors). Anyway, as usual you only told the part of the story that suited you. You see, as a New Yorker who watched the towers fall live and in person, I was absolutely horrified at your article criticizing Rudy (correctly) for spending more time at Yankee games than at Ground Zero. I was horrified because it showed how absolutely clueless you were about the psyche of New Yorkers after 9/11.

You see, any serious baseball fan and any serious New Yorker knows how critical the Yankees were to the healing process in the Big Apple after the tragic attack. In fact, HBO did an excellent documentary on that very subject called "Nine Innings from Ground Zero." And THAT's why Giuliani and so many New Yorkers spent so much time in BOTH places, right through the World Series. You were wrong to trash him. It showed your ignorance. Jim Geraughty pointed that out, too and called you "axe-grinding hack" -- and he was right to do that.

As for you statement that I "pretended to be an Obama admirer, mainly in order to abuse Hillary Clinton" -- Well, you're half right. I was a Hillary detractor indeed. I loathed her and took every opportunity to put her down -- although I made sure I backed it up with facts. But I never pretended to be an Obama fan. And since you seem so fond of reading my old posts, you can go back and see for yourself.

And BTW, I seem to remember you writing on behalf of Hillary while putting down Obama for many, many months -- and in a not-so-subtle fashion. I'm sure your readers will both remember and agree with that.

So now that the record is clear, would you mind answering my question, Joan? Do you still stand by your report in your "McCain Loses Again" article that stated Joe the Plumber is a "wealthy Toledo businessman?"

@ Faulkner -- Welcome back, Faulk

I know I shouldn't have called Joan dogface. But that was two years ago and my first time to the site. I knew nothing of Salon back then. Live and learn. Other than that, I disagree with you, I really have been quite a civil fellow, mellowing with age, I guess. Funny how Joan never owns up to her journalistic flaws/mistakes when I point them out to her. She just changes the subject instead. And remembering my first letter from two years ago? -- My, God, I must've really gotten into the poor woman's head.

Happy Halloween. Enjoy -- especially if you have little ones.

@ Faulk

What coincidence. I spent five years as a big brother when I lived in North Jersey. Took a boy from the age of 9 to 14. What a transformation. Lots of luck.

@ Faulk -- "It's wonderful to hear that you participated in the Big Brothers program."

Yes, Faulk, you'd be amazed at how involved I am in community/charitable programs as an "evil" Republican.
