Joan sez: "Let John McCain try to ride this issue to a victory in California. I don't see it."

He doesn't have to ride it to victory in California, Joan. He can ride it to victory in every single state between California and Massachusetts. It's an issue that Americans everywhere have a strong visceral response to. And the Republicans will capitalize on that just as they always have. So will gay marriage doom the Democrats, you ask? Not by itself. But when served up along with all the rest of the havoc Hillary's "kitchen sink" campaign strategy has left behind -- YES -- I think it may help doom the Democrats in November.

PS: I noticed you said your daughter was "crushed to hear teachers and classmates say that Mayor Gavin Newsom's decision to legalize gay marriage doomed the Democrats that year." It made me wonder if your daughter is gay. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Just wondering.

@ Green Job & FilthyHarry -- Carol Richards was being sarcastic.

It's often hard to tell with her, but on this one I'm sure.

Joan points to the letters thread on the Dee Davis article and sez, "There are more than a handful of people suggesting Obama doesn't need 'the ignoramus vote' and 'The time of being nice to stupid people is over!'"

Leave it to Joan to bring us the most abhorrent remarks by the most abhorrent Obama supporters. Again. Only this time they're not even letters written by people responding to her own article. Now she's actually bringing us the most ignoble letters she can find from articles written by others! Oh well, I guess that beats having to write something herself and then cherrypick the responses to make the same, stupid point. Can you believe this woman? Quick, Joan, google "sexism" and send us the most vile reader comments you can find on that subject too.

Original article: A split Democratic decision

Joan sez: "Exit polls reported a quarter of Clinton's Kentucky supporters said race was an issue in their vote."

Yes, Joan, Hillary attracts racists. Isn't that special?

Joan sez: "We don't know how it will end."

Yes, we do, Joan. Clinton will finish the primaries and claim a popular vote victory. She will do this by discounting the results of the caucuses and counting the Florida and Michigan primaries. In fact, she is already counting Florida and Michigan. It doesn't matter that she's changing the rules she agreed to before the primary began. She's Hillary. This is what Clintons do. If the DNC decides to stick to the rules and not seat Florida and Michigan at the end of May, Hillary will continue to count them anyway. If the DNC devises a way to seat Florida and Michigan that falls short of putting her over the top, Hillary will continue to count them using her own special brand of math instead. And when the final delegate count -- including the Superdelegates -- favors Obama, she will claim that she's proven Obama can't beat McCain and that she has the most voters behind her to prove it. This will be her logic for taking her case to the convention, where she will destroy the Democratic Party's hopes for taking the White House. Why? Because she's Hillary. This is what Clintons do.

@ Sugarman -- Thanks for the Ephron Link

BTW, that "Dr. Phil" comment I made last week was meant light-heartedly. Never meant to "knock the wind" out of you. Sorry if it came across the wrong way.

@ jebldmm - "I'm quitting the Democratic Party and joining NOW"

That's like saying I'm quitting the Democratic Party and joining the Democratic Party.

On Hillary's latest claims of sexism

This from Peggy Noonan's column today:

So, to address the charge that sexism did her {Hillary} in:

It is insulting, because it asserts that those who supported someone else this year were driven by low prejudice and mindless bias.

It is manipulative, because it asserts that if you want to be understood, both within the community and in the larger brotherhood of man, to be wholly without bias and prejudice, you must support Mrs. Clinton.

It is not true. Tough hill-country men voted for her, men so backward they'd give the lady a chair in the union hall. Tough Catholic men in the outer suburbs voted for her, men so backward they'd call a woman a lady. And all of them so naturally courteous that they'd realize, in offering the chair or addressing the lady, that they might have given offense, and awkwardly joke at themselves to take away the sting. These are great men. And Hillary got her share, more than her share, of their votes. She should be a guy and say thanks.

It is prissy. Mrs. Clinton's supporters are now complaining about the Hillary nutcrackers sold at every airport shop. Boo hoo. If Golda Meir, a woman of not only proclaimed but actual toughness, heard about Golda nutcrackers, she would have bought them by the case and given them away as party favors.

It is sissy. It is blame-gaming, whining, a way of not taking responsibility, of not seeing your flaws and addressing them. You want to say "Girl, butch up, you are playing in the leagues, they get bruised in the leagues, they break each other's bones, they like to hit you low and hear the crack, it's like that for the boys and for the girls."

And because the charge of sexism is all of the above, it is, ultimately, undermining of the position of women. Or rather it would be if its source were not someone broadly understood by friend and foe alike to be willing to say anything to gain advantage.

Another Joan Walsh column on racism. Yawn. Meanwhile, Hillary sez a possible assasination is her reason for staying in the race.

What are you smoking, Joan?

Saturday, May 24, 2008 08:27 AM

@ Jameka -- "All the woman was saying is that primaries have gone past June."

She was also twisting the truth. As usual. Because the primaries started in March that year. Therefore, the primary season had only been going on for three months when RFK was shot. It's a lame analogy because it has nothing to do with the much longer primary season we have today. Typical Hillary BS.

Joan sez: "Clinton-hate is in danger of damaging the Democratic Party."

Are you just REALLY just coming to grips with this now, Joan?

It's only going to get worse. Especially if she doesn't drop out after the final primaries next week. And if she DOES decide to take it all the way to the convention, she WILL destroy the party. Wake up and smell the Starbucks.
