Joan's Sexism vs. Racism "Oppression Sweepstakes"

This from "Race to the Bottom" by Betsy Reed, published today at The Nation:

"The sexist attacks on Clinton are outrageous and deplorable, but there's reason to be concerned about her becoming the vehicle for a feminist reawakening. For one thing, feminist sympathy for her has begotten an "oppression sweepstakes" in which a number of her prominent supporters, dismayed at her upstaging by Obama, have declared a contest between racial and gender bias and named sexism the greater scourge. This maneuver is not only unhelpful for coalition-building but obstructs understanding of how sexism and racism have played out in this election in different (and interrelated) ways."

I think Ms. Reed has nailed it indeed. And in doing so, she's made it easy for Salon readers to see just how active a role Joan Walsh has taken in this destructive initiative. Clearly, Joan is among "a number of {Hillary's} prominent supporters, dismayed at {Hillary's} upstaging by Obama, {who} have declared a contest between racial and gender bias and named sexism the greater scourge."

Congratulations, Joan, your deplorable "Oppression Sweepstakes" has finally been given an apt name. And you have exposed for your shameful part in it.

@ Carol Richards - Huh?

"I think I agree with those points, except that assertion that Joan is a Hillary supporter."

Surely you jest.

Hillary backed the doomed "Eight Belles" in the Kentucky Derby

If you recall, Hillary Clinton told people on a campaign stop last week that they should back the ‘filly’ in the race -- a three-year-old named Eight Belles. This, of course, was a not-so-subtle hint for people to back her majesty herself in the Democratic Primary. Unfortunately, poor Eight Belles finished in 2nd place, broke both front ankles, and had to be put down right there on the track. For Eight Belles, it was a tragedy. For Hillary, it was a harbinger. Because just like Eight Belles, even if Hillary runs as hard as she can, she's going to finish second. And once it's over, people will "put her down" for the way she ran her race. However, all is not lost -- because there ain't nothing in the world gonna break those triple-thick cankles of hers.

@ Carol Richards -- Hillary's vetted?

Oh, puh-leeze. I assure you there's more "sniper fire" ahead. More delusion. More gaffes. If not from her own mouth, then from her hound dog of a husband. Come to think about it, Bill is just about due for another bout of "foot-in-mouth" disease, isn't he?

This just in: Hillary sez -- "OPEC can no longer be a cartel!"

"We’re going to go right at OPEC," she said. "They can no longer be a cartel, a monopoly that gets to gather once every couple of months" at a hotel in "some plush place in the world" to set prices." At least, that's what she told a crowd at a volunteer fire house in Merillville.

Uh-huh. I see.

Hillary is going to go to the Middle East and tell all the top oil-producing countries in the world to "break it up." Just like that. And the saddest part is that the people in Merillville applauded like this was something Hillary would actually do. And that OPEC would immediately disband. My God, the Hillary Trance is unbreakable. These poor, poor souls. Hillary's legions of useful idiots.

THIS is what Joan writes about on the day of the NC/Indiana Primary?

A voice heard through the megaphone of the Journalism Police:

"Attention, Joan Walsh! We have you surrounded! Move away from the keyboard and comeout with your hands up!"

Talk about losing touch. Or has she lost her mind as well?

@-- ALG200 -- Yes, it's true about Carol Richards.

Her eyes are locked in the Hillary Trance. She actually believes Hillary can win. Poor thing. Oh, well, at least she'll be a useful idiot for Joan to the "bitter" end.

I thought Joan was vehemently against torture.

But after reading this column and so many of her others -- not to mention those unwatchable videos of hers -- well, I think I'd rather be waterboarded.

@ Carol Richards - "How do you know where an Obamite went to school?"

You can't. He refuses to wear his class ring.

Yes, Obama was magnanimous in congratulating Hillary, but...

did anyone notice if Hillary bothered to congratulate Obama?
