Elizabeth Edwards Dissed? Not really
[Read the article: How much can John Edwards help Barack Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Quote: "I thought the post making light of my asking where Elizabeth Edwards stands, because she's not even a superdelegate, was a little bit mocking."
Holy cow. Like C. Mosby, I'd been wondering where Elizabeth Edwards was dissed, but I figured I'd just missed it. Now it turns out it was something someone said about not caring who she endorsed?
Joan. Seriously. You need a vacation.
I think Elizabeth Edwards is terrific. Do I care where she stands on Obama v. Clinton? Not really. I know whoever she supports, she's made a principled choice, one that will either agree with my choice or won't agree. It wouldn't change my mind about my choice if I were to learn she supported Clinton, and it wouldn't change my mind about her, Sen. Clinton or Sen. Obama either. I'm curious, I suppose, but I'm not holding my breath to hear. Like I said, I know she has good reasons no matter who she supports.

Just a different focus is all
[Read the article: How much can John Edwards help Barack Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Quote: "Lindy from L.A., I don't speak for Elizabeth Edwards, but not caring who she supports, after all she's invested politically in the Democratic Party? That sounds disrespectful. I could be wrong."
Joan, I'm probably splitting hairs, drawing lines where there's not much point in drawing them, but I feel (as do many of us) like I know who Elizabeth Edwards is and I really really like her and admire her and respect her. I guess I assume she supports Clinton because of Clinton's position on mandates, but it's possible she supports Obama. If and when she announces her endorsement, or who she's supporting, I will read it because, yes, I'm interested in reading her thinking.
At the same time, I understand how someone could say: "Who cares? She's not a superdelegate." They're just thinking about something else; they're thinking about how and when Obama lines up enough delegates to win the nomination. I don't see that particular focus as disrespectful of Elizabeth Edwards. If they'd said, "Who cares? She's just a woman" or "Who cares? She's just Sen. Edwards' wife" -- now that would be disrespectful!

Heart on Sleeve
[Read the article: How much can John Edwards help Barack Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Quote: "Part of what's hard for me here is people show up in these threads, they know nothing about me, they read ranting letter writers and draw wild conclusions. Many of my critics may well disagree with me if they knew me better, but they wouldn't be so...well, I'll leave that hanging, because I can't find the right word."
Joan, This is interesting. Last night, I posted a couple notes (after having posted sporadically in the last couple months or so), and it struck me before I logged off how unusual it was to have an editor right there participating in an ongoing exchange. And it led me to alter a little bit the lens through which I'd been reading your posts. For example: the disrespect of Elizabeth Edwards thing. I think my immediate response if I'd read that line -- something to the effect of "who cares what Elizabeth Edwards thinks? she's not a superdelegate" -- might have been similar to yours: an immediate sting. But, if that question hadn't been accompanied by something I could more conclusively interpret as disrespect of Elizabeth, I would've discounted it as simply the result of a focus on delegate count.
So, I think what I'm saying is that you seem to wear your heart on your sleeve more than most online posters. And not just your heart, but an actual EKG monitor! I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it does change the discussion. Does it make it more civil? It might. Now that I see your heart on your sleeve, I do suddenly feel protective of it. Will that open the discussion to something more productive and substantive? I don't know. I'll be curious to see.

Heh?
[Read the article: How much can John Edwards help Barack Obama?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Quote: "On the one hand, no one can be allowed to share the stage or credit with the One True Obama, blessed be he. On the other, they know they run the risk of foisting what increasingly appears to be a vague unfocused "Elect me because it's time for a Black President" campaign on us. On the third hand, a lot of Dems think Edwards has appeal but Obamatrons and Saloniks can't get past their raging bigotry of anyone born below the Mason Dixon line. Personally I think that unless Obama is willing to fork over a great deal of power and responsibility to the VP slot, then Edwards would have to be insane to accept."
Bravo! Your entire post is pure fabrication! Truly a tour de foce!

Actually, there are some posts on this same subject at another link. From the main page, if instead of clicking on this post, you click on Joan's video, I think you'll find your comment there.
In fact, here's the link:
