It actually began with Nixon, the southern strategy and his sneering attitude of 'east coast elites'. But, it was highlighted with Quayle.
Palin was part of a group of up and coming young gop pols shaped by Gingrich's pac that taught them how to sell themselves to their base and also was spotted by the neocons, who were interested in her as a Bush type pol. Incurious, unfocused and not too bright. But, very ambitious.
If you watch videos of Palin's Alaska gov. debates she talks totally different. Normal without the 'you betchas and winks and posing and preening. She tried to be serious and come off as a serious candidate.
Nothing like her image now.
She is still not answering questions and ducking and shifting but, without all the fake behavior of last night.
She saw herself as a serious person but, she just was not that bright because she did not care about issues.
Now she is just a pretty package and window dressing complete with fake slogans and fake accent of what passes for just a middle class mom in middle America small town.
He came into the senate with his self appointed big brother, Dick Durbin having campaigned with Obama here in Illinois and paving the way for him early and Obama being the one highlight in a dismal year by giving the dems a senate seat with his win.
But, Obama also proved himself to be deferential to the senior senators, a serious and substantive and hard working senator and having a winning personality.
Now he comes back to the senate as the leader of his party and doing very well in the polls a month before the election.
These senate democrats are seeing a democratic president and it makes them giddy.
mcCain has become as big a national joke as Palin. Everyone with a thinking brain knows this is only a stunt and it backfired for McCain.
He walked around looking confused and old all day in his photo ops.
the meeting today was hillarious. While you saw Obama looking pissed at being dragged into this whole set up and staring at a sheepish and nervously fiddling McCain at the opposite end of the table.
I don't think this is what McCain had in mind when he had bush call Obama to come to this meeting. I think McCain thought he was going to look tough and presidential. Instead he looked like an old fool.
that is why mccain is trying to duck out and sunk the agreement the congress struck up today.
they had everything ready and McCain sinks the whole thing and sets off the collapse of the largest savings and loan, Washington bank.
He has become a national joke and probably will not show up tomorrow night because they will be discussing the economic stuff before moving to foreign affairs.
McCain is scared of answering on the economic stuff.
what a big hero- ha
so, why don't they fight against her. Why do they allow her to get her way and elect her.
It seems many are on to this woman and her way of operating. It seems to me that it would be high time to take this lady down and teach her a few manners.
Basically kick her ass.
Seems most people like her gets their eventually and it seems she is pretty much up for that.
I personally do not see how anyone can be taken by her. She is so obvious in her manner that she is an opportunist. And just look at her eyes and you see a true snake slithering.
But, then, we are talking about those who voted twice for Bush so, I guess I am giving people too much credit for seeing through a phoney like her.
My mother taught us a love of politics though she is still a French citizen and can't vote.
But, in her older years her views have changed and she is so typical of people her age and I think many like these voters.
She loved Hillary. all her children except my one sister are die hard Obama supporters. My one sister is a gender voter.
But, I think there is no one issue or thing that makes her, a democrat, so cool to Obama.
I think him being her children's age makes her see him as too young. And inexperienced. I think his race is mixed in there but, she'd never admit to it.
But, she just doesn't even try to educate herself about Obama and closes us off. She is still all about Hillary and wished she was running.
She accepts her loss but, she thinks the hidden hand of Bill would have been there to run the white house behind the throne.
And so, she cannot understand how anyone could pick this inexperienced kid who is black and no one knows over Hillary.
You could do indepth bios on Obama from now until election day and she would block it out. She has no desire to know about Obama or who he is. Nevermind that Obama is, afterall, her senator.
I think it's the same for these people. They see this inexperienced rookie and race is just another thing to add on to his drawbacks in their minds but, not the main thing.
And no matter how much info, even if all positive and enlightening, was put out for them to see everyday, they still would not know him because they would just tune it out.
For them, they must be talked to one on one by friend or family or volunteer and still they are leery.
I don't think it's so much Hillary nostalgia as Bill. They are upset that the hand of Bill won't be there and he did alot with the economy and are not interested in anyone else.
