i Don't Understand why
[Read the article: Queen Hillary's disruptive court]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't understand why all these women are so blind to the pitfalls of supporting HRC. As a woman, I would love to see a democratic woman as president. that is not Hillary.
She is the opposite of what I concider a real role model. She got where she is solely on nepotism. What a real lesson for all those young girls. marry the right man and your career is made. that is how you get ahead in the world. Back to the 1950s, I'd think.
Her lead is due in large measure to the compliant press who has given her a coronation and glowing coverage for a year. One bad night and watch the queen go off the edge. Yet democrats are fooled into thinking she is the best against republicans. If a candidate who got where she is by her marriage and cannot take one night of serious questions, how in world do they imagine she is best against the republicans?
And if over half of her own party will not vote for her, like myself, and independents and republicans are just as turned off by her, why do democrats think she is the most electable.
Camille, I suggest you do an article examining why democrats are so dense when it comes to picking candidates and think the most unlikable are the best picks. (mondale and dukakis come to mind as a blueprint for Hillary).

childhood experience
[Read the article: The Democrats' foreign (policy) wars]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It would be foolish to dismiss the value of living with the everyday people in another country or the experience gleaned by family living abroad.
my mom is from France and she always has a different or unique look to what is conventional in American thinking in politics. My family in France also give me insight to how we are seen overseas and how much this country affects the lives of average people in other countries.
To dismiss it out of hand is simply being narrow minded and having a very narrow view of the world.
I understood what Obama was alluding to. it was not the end all be all of his experience. It was something added that is unique like a different taste of icing on a cake.
Hillary's experience abroad consists of going to talk to a leader for an afternoon, leave and go to a different country. No actual first hand look or talking to the average person living there.
Besides, her travels were in 99. It is now 2007. How many are still in power?
And I don't recall her being a face of foreign policy in her husband's administration.
I remember Albright but, no mention of Hillary then.

I Think There is Alot Changing in the Country
[Read the article: Why conservatives love Barack Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have read with interest the letters from republicans as well as those of my fellow democrats.
I see many of the democrats are becoming what we hated most about the far right and that is becoming very partisan, unable to see the forest from the trees and replaying the same old talking points that have been around since the 90s.
Yes, republicans have been annoying but, we are not blameless and as one republican tried to explain, the Clintons are not blameless either. The Clintons endured alot of grief but, in many ways they also did alot to deserve some of the criticism.
Instead of romanticizing them look with an open eye at the past and remember how the Clintons threw us democrats under the bus many times.
I have had to endure such wonderous nominees to vote for from Mondale to Dukakis to Kerry, ect. I will not simply vote the nominee this time if it is Hillary. I have had it with the garbage from both sides and Hillary embodies the worst of it.
Her actions during the past 2 months show that she is much dirtier and plays much more sleazy politics than republicans do.
The reason that republicans like Obama is because they respect the man. Bill and Hillary never gave people on our side a reason to respect them so why should republicans. But, Obama is a man of principals and honor. He is a family man who stands by his word. He listens to people.
This makes him much stronger than the secretive and defensive Hillary. He can take the measure of people and knows how to deal with them.
And from the way he's handled Hillary's nasty attacks makes him a better nominee. He handled the attacks with class and wit and looked presidential while Hillary looked the petulant child. He exposed her for a bully. And like most bullies, you stand up to them and they fall apart.
I believe there are many republicans who desire the same as democrats do. A country that is working again, is respected and where we can agree to disagree without getting in each others faces.
I think many republicans are just as tired of the rancour and the fighting as many democrat are. They want a real president. One who will govern well and thoughtful and one who will listen to many voices.
i respect those republicans who have written here trying to explain their feelings and trying to find a way to end the hate. For them to write openly about what they have takes courage. They are reaching out for us to listen to them and to find a way to end the wars among us.
I see my side not understanding or listening but, slapping their hand of friendship back.
It has to stop.
Obama sees this and he speaks to many different types of people and their hearts. I have heard plenty of republicans calling the Washington Journal expressing their support of Obama. They know he is liberal but, don't care. They say they support him because he speaks to something inside and they simply like this man.
For someone like Obama to be able to reach and touch the hearts of those on the other side is an incredible strength that so many democrats cannot or will not see.
