the center is no longer a vital and energetic or imaginative place. It, like so much today, is a pale and sad substitute for the original. And lacks imagination, verve and vitality.

I have seen the right, the conservative movement sink into the farce it is today beginning about the time of the Contract with America. The duo of Newt and Delay did so much to destroy our congress and turn it from one of doing the people's business and putting the good of the country first to one of special interests, more interested in the good of the lobbyists, and viturally inert when it comes to making real laws that are for the country and it's citizens and making grand bargains, except with the corporations.

It now infects both parties. Neither is clean.

But, while Newt and Delay turned congress into a criminal enterprise, along with daddy Armey, of today's Freedom Works, the center weakened to the point of becoming the joke, the sneering about and the weak whine of a Liebermann.

The media is so easily distracted by culture issues and only talking about it on the surface rather then the hard, nitty gritty of the substance of race and racism.

But, then, if they did the media would have to confront the thing they avoid, which links to the commentary about the media avoiding having to talk about the rightwing lies.

It all ties together.

The rightwing is very good at lighting fires and making spectacles and the media runs and covers it. They know they are being led around and manipulated but, they can't help themselves because it's so juicy, fun and gossipy. Nice and shallow.

In the meantime, they ignore the lies and manipulation because they would have to confront the issues and the substance, which is so unfun and factual and 'unsexy'.

So, they pretend the rightwing has valid points and refuse to call out the lies. And the rightwing is so much more fun to cover because they are like those B Hollywood stars trying to get attention and in the paper.

Some is due to the idiocy of the Bush years with hate radio and Faux hurrahing the two oil men and their denials.

But, the other I only heard about a little bit ago. The conservatives in American are doubly against accepting climate change because they see it as working with the rest of the world and then fostering the 'one world order' they are always sure is happening.

In other words, the usual conspiracy and ignorance.

People need to put the 1960s aside and stop seeing everything as a rerun of some 1960s thing.

Last Summer I kept hearing about the Democratic Convention and 1968. Even though this one was held in Denver.

Not Chicago.

Every war. Every issue. The stupid culture wars and the polarizing hate fest we see now is a continuation of the damn 1960s fight between liberals and conservatives.

Over the last several years we have seen the boomers take this analogy obsession to greater lengths.

Now the conservatives see every leader and everything they hate as Hitler, Nazi and WWII.

Obama is seen as every president of the 20th century and even the 21st in Bush - every president that is except for Obama himself.

And just as Obama is not FDR, JFK or Clinton or Carter but, Obama. Afghan is not any war, including Vietnam but, it's own war unique to itself.

Enough with the analogy obsession with the boomers.

they would have learned a lesson by now and not go trotting off with the rabid rightwing to do to Obama what they did to Clinton.

But, nooooooooo. They never learn.

There is a democrat in the White House so, he must be destroyed. All democrats must be taken down.

Politico is sure doing their best to show how.

So, the true confessions of knowingly smearing and hounding the Clintons, licking GW Bush's boots with Iraq, ect., and their downfall because of this and their discredited reputation, you would think they would try to look inward and try to correct their bad behavior.

But, as of today, we still have the drama stories of how Obama is doing something wrong...

I grew up loving and taking keen interest in politics. I watched the conventions as a kid and teenager. I talked politics with my mom and brother.

I always had an interest until the Clinton years. I could not stand the way the press treated the Clintons. The coverage was disgusting and I stopped listening.

Joan, you need to confront your beltway friends and try to get to the bottom of their need to crucify the democrats in general.

Why they were so ugly towards the Clintons, so slavish of Bush when anyone with an ounce of brains or common sense saw he was a fraud and a incompetent.

Why does the beltway run around trying to impress Drudge, roll over for the gop and trash anyone who is a democrat and tie them to 50 year old stereotypes that don't fit.

Then, you need to write about it to educate us as to why.
