The very offensive refusal to give the President of the United States any kind of respect, but, now teaching their own children to have disrespect for the president of our country is beyond the pale. As Ed Schultz said today, I, too am deeply offended by this behavior towards the President.
This constant braying about socialists, marxists and indoctrination and the total childish tantrums and hate and vileness has gone way beyond all boundaries.
The rightwing has trained their supporters to behave in the most irresponsible manner and even in dangerous ways.
I am tired of everyone from the schools to politicians and even the media cowering in fear of the rightwing crazies.
they have allowed the lunatics to take over and run our society.
they have given legitimacy. And yet, mainstream democrats are seen and portrayed as far left lunatics because the twisted behavior of the right tells them that anything left of the far right is communist.
It's time for those in positions with a way to reach the masses to stand up to the bullies and grow a pair. Stop allowing the rightwing to dictate our thinking and our policies when they are in the far minority.
It is time for the media to stand up to the far right and then, only then, will the politicians start to act like real grown ups.
If not, we will see a major tragedy within a year or two.
Ever since Obama was sworn in I have seen on my usual blog haunts so many people going into overdrive paranoia and angst and rage, ect., because someone in the traditional media (that many on the left usually find shallow and silly) mentions, opines or parses, usually wrong, that Obama meant this or that.
Then goes the diaries and postings of emotional doom and obsessive analyzing and how Obama is such a traitor, liar, ect.
A few days later these very same people are having crow because they continue to be duped and find out this rumor, ect., was not factual.
All summer with the health care debate we see liberals raging about Obama, calling every name, saying he is Bush II, ect. ect. and in general almost out hating the rightwing in their rejection of the man.
And all summer it is due to people reacting and listening to the same msm that they say is nothing more then stenos for the rightwing.
Guess, most of these rumors that causes so many on the left to declare doom and gloom every week is stuff the media is stenographing from the same rightwing and yet, the left still falls for it.
It's like if Obama doesn't say Public Option in every public sentence then the left goes off the rails about how he is selling them out and dumping it.
This is a large part of why this summer has been so blue for many on the left.
Instead of using common sense, stop looking for things that are not there, listening to the rumors and gossips that always turn out wrong, the left has driven itself insane.
Joan, this need to find the black cloud in the silver lining needs to end.
And that is why you felt Obama is not the guy you voted for.
I have to agree with Rachael Maddow. In fact I have thought the same as she has this past month when she said Obama probably played this so August the republicans could get their ya-yas out and also expose themselves for the ugly and immature fringe they have become now.
Sometimes you do have to hold back and let the screaming, debates, bad behavior, ect. let itself out before you can go about doing what needs to be donw.
And frankly the republicans have exposed themselves as not so patriotic and country loving but, cynical and crass and opportunistic bums.
Basically it's a movement based on the culture of me. The glory and indulgence of 'me'.
The whole 'me' culture out of the 70s and 80s is from conservatism.
It's a self obsessed movement that preaches to the main thought being 'what about me'.
And their arguments center around self. If I am able to have a job and house and insurance then I don't see why I have to help those who don't. Why should I care about those losers. Or if they are hit by tough times that is their fault.
ect., ect.,
empathy and compassion are weak. So, it is only when they finally are hit by the tough times that they jeered others for, will they finally think about doing something.
But, it is only because it centers around 'me' and is interfering or making difficult 'my' life.
I do think there is an awful and nasty racial thread running through the republican party.
It has for 40 years but, now it's coming out for various reasons.
One is connected to Obama and the right having a hard time dealing with Obama's skin color.
But, some of it is due to the internet. As emails of racist cartoons and jokes, ect., are no longer private and made known to the world.
As such, we are learning just how deep the racism runs in the republican party.
Along with it is the angry old white guys being hopped up on hate fed to them by Fox and Limbaugh.
They get a steady diet of it and alot of the crazy rightwing garbage and lies becomes cw as it makes it's way to the mainstream.
Unfortunately you also have a very ready press to take dutiful steno for rightwing talking points and repeating them as if in stone with no fact checking.
And a press that sees mainstream, moderate left as the far left wackos and the far rightwing crazies as just average joes and right leaning populism.
