She isn't "privileged"

She's normal. Sex/gender is binary, with a very few exceptions proving the rule.

Dr. Tutuer nailed it

I wonder though, by, say, age 16 or so, wasn't she curious as to why she never had a period?

That said, poor girl, no one should have to go through this.

GWTW is the American

Merchant of Venice. Great art, as such, horrible messages.

Personally, I always thought the movie idiotic and corny.

@jonathanseer

I think that you have discovered a fantastic business opportunity for someone. Clothes for women, designed by men who are attracted to women. Hmmm.

To catch his eye...

"if you aren't practicing, are you even a 'Jew.'"

Yes, you are. Even Robert Novak was a Jew when he died. So was the former Archbishop of France.

Once a Jew, always a Jew.

Clinton wasn't fiscally irresponsible

He made sure our bills were paid.

And who says that a debased dollar is a bad thing? Continual balance-of-trade deficits are yet another example of something that can't go on, must stop.

Say it loud,

I'm a Pharisee and I'm Proud! (in my best James Brown). There is no slur in calling someone a Pharisee.

The best translation of Pharisee (Perushim) today is "Jew".

The Greek Bible seemed to be talking about Rabbis.

Considering that the people who wrote the Greek Bible went to great length to try to prove that the Jesus character was the descendant of King David, and that David would not be considered legitimately the King were it not for the Oral Tradition, it is a fair inference to draw that the authors of the Greek Bible were themselves Pharisees.

Thursday, October 8, 2009 11:39 AM

Actually, using "Lord"

instead of transliterations of the 4 letter Name is quite sensitive to Jewish sensibilities. We alias the Name, both in speech and typing (i.e., G_d) out of respect. FYI.

@Publicola

There are no Jews today who are not spiritual descendants of the Pharisees (however religious they may or may not be). Rabbinical Judaism was the only branch of Judaism that survived the Chorban (the destruction of the Temple).

If there were only the Written Torah, David could never have been King, since in Deut. (forget where exactly at the moment), Mo'avim are not allowed to become Jews. The Oral Tradition clarifies it that Mo'avim men are not allowed to become Jews, but Mo'avim women are. Were Ruth not a valid Convert, David would not have belonged to the Tribe of Yehudah and therefore could not have become King.

The KJV is a terrible translation, btw.

For example, nowhere in Torah is the phrase "an eye for an eye" written or meant. FWIW.

The only Jews _left_.

Sorry for the confusion.

It's totally camp

with a 30 something playing a teenager, but I did enjoy the bromance, for a while. Then the guy with no penis bit came on, I just dropped it from there.

@gezelligtexas

Point well taken. It's tough to get through the bigotry of the tolerant.

I'm sure those guys said that from a position of respect, actually.

To a man with a hammer

everything is a nail. At this point in time, the US only knows how to use big guns, invade, create a puppet government and occupy at the same time. A large part of the problem (which has been this way since the end of WWII) is that the D's are afraid (with good reason) about being demogogued by the R's.

The "Who Lost China" debacle continues to wound us.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 08:29 AM

There are no "Thou Shalt/Shalt Not" in the Bible

Tanach is in Hebrew, the other's in Greek.

Who the hell is this guy, anyways? I could definitely see him in the Vichy government.

Holding Israel to a higher standard, unconsciously, perhaps

As far as I know, Mr. G has never criticized the Iraqis or the Egyptians for expelling and/or oppressing their Christian minorities, both the recipients of massive US interference in their countries. Off the top of my head, I'm sure that the Saudis and the Kuwaitis do a lot of bad things as well (military protection of the ruling elite costs a lot of US$).

To hold Israel to a higher standard than its neighbors is well and good, as long as one is open about it. Otherwise, one becomes like the Apartheid protesters ignoring Idi Amin, Bourassa and several other black African murderers whose victims were other black Africans.

I'd like Mr. G to address this, if possible.

I wish to say now though, that I do regret the ad hominems against those who disagree with my hard-line Zionist views.

It's a pleasure to root for the hegemon

Give yourself over, to absolute pleasure,

Dr. Cole, give up hope

for peace between the Jordan and the Sea. There are no solutions to the refugee problem, nor Jerusalem. The Jews and the Philistines will fight until Moshiach comes.

Until then, the only sensible thing for the Jews to do is to keep their foot on the Philistines' necks.

2 points Mr. G has never addressed

At least I never have. If he has, please point me there. Now,

1) The US pays no price for its support of Israel, except that many people don't like us. Big deal. The only thing that the Arab and Persian worlds produce that we want is oil, and oil producers can't afford not to sell it to us (not that we should buy it, but that's another story).

2) Either wittingly or unwittingly, Mr. G. holds Israel to a higher standard than other recipients of massive aid. I use "aid" in a broad sense, because basing troops in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait sure costs a lot of money. Egypt was and is a full partner in the blockade of Gaza, it has driven out its Christian population, plus it suppresses its Sinaitic population. Saudi Arabia is currently trying to put down a Shi'ite rebellion in Yemen, where a new large refugee population has been created. Finally, Iraqi Christians have been largely ethnically cleansed.

Were Mr. G. honest about it, I would take his criticisms seriously. Otherwise, it's just hypocrisy.

At least I have never seen

him address it. Sorry for the typo.
