@jazzylo

"The procedure lasts for about fifteen minutes."

No, it lasts for less than a second. The boy generally starts crying when he is unswaddled, before anything is put on him. The actual cutting takes less than a second, the wound is cleaned, antibiotic ointment is put on, wound is covered, new diaper put on, reswaddled. The boy is quiet again in about a minute or two.

I've seen about a hundred or so, up close and personal.

@BabyGrumpusGotBack

That's cool. Keep on keepin' on.

The reason I hang out here is to promote some understanding between the Left and us hard-core religious fundamentalists. Seems like mission accomplished, with you and Heller11 at least.

@Heller11

"But it seems those religious traditions would rethink the practice. After all, the Torah calls for all kinds of animal sacrifice that haven't been practiced in millenia."

We can't rethink the practice. It comes from Hashem and is not ours to change or rethink. The only reason we don't sacrifice animals today is because there is nowhere to do it. Were the Temple rebuilt today (G_d willing), I'd be in Jerusalem in a heart beat buying the animals I'd need, learning the techniques.

Where are these people? URL please.

If they are really doing what you say they are doing, then they are transgressing a Commandment. I doubt it, because people claiming the right according to Torah for uncles to marry nieces is stupid beyond words.

@eshu21

It's hard to take anti-circ fanatics who would ban circumcision seriously. I take people like Heller seriously; he's respectful of our tradition, even though he doesn't like it and would prefer we didn't do it.

I stay out of the whole health issue because it's completely irrelevant to me.

So, here are some better descriptions of you. Fool. Traitor.

There is anesthesia at a Bris

"Skipping the anesthesia for religious reasons is putting one's infant through a great deal of pain for your own feelings, not his."

The mohel gives the baby a wine soaked handkerchief to suck on.

You asked a Reform Rabbi, who by definition aren't real Rabbis. However, I quickly checked with AskMoses.com, which features real Rabbis. I'll be darned, you were right, it is legal for an uncle to marry his niece. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong.

I'll do some more research into this (B"N). I don't understand it (for example, an aunt is not allowed to marry her nephew), and I certainly wouldn't advise it.

Well Eshu

It doesn't matter what you think. You can't stop us. Other people who have tried have wound up in the trash bin of history, while we're still here. Your dreams of defeating Torah will fail just like all the others.

Meanwhile, I go to Brissim all the time and now I will think of your impotent rage and disgust and smile with delight as we celebrate yet another boy's entry into the Covenant of Abraham.

Thanks!

Emes is Emes; you can't argue with Truth. However, some locusts are kosher. That doesn't mean that you have to eat them.

Go to an Orthodox Shul tomorrow and listen to the Torah portion. It's Acharei Mos, which details the forbidden sexual practices. Ask your honest questions to the Rov.

My former brother-in-law

is not Jewish and intact. When he had a son, he had him circumcised at birth.

Similarly, Elon's son is going to hate her because he's going to have to get circumcised later in life, when it's going to hurt a whole lot more than it would were it done at the proper time.

I do know a Jew who became religious later in life and had to have himself circumcised at age 21. He still resents his parents for not doing it at the proper time.

@d.c. eric

Yes, I am. If the boy will live in Israel, it's almost a certainty.

I've participated in this thread because it is a sine qua non for Judaism. I really don't understand the significance the antis place on this procedure, in comparison to all the other more important things going on.

An uncut Jewish man

is not "excommunicated" like Catholics do. He cannot perform certain things, like read from the Torah during Services, for example.

Like I said, I participated in this thread because certain antis want to ban the procedure, like Antioches, Stalin, etc. If the procedure is banned, then Judaism cannot continue.

That is very important to me, would probably be less important to you.
