I, too, get off (sorry) on Dr. Drew's rehab show, although I was surprised to see that sexual addiction is a legitimate illness. But I suppose anything you do compulsively to the extent that it's self destructive qualifies as an addiction.
As for watching them...I think Dr. Drew would say that he tries to choose relatively stable personalities (those who won't swallow a bottle of pills on his show)who need help and have agreed (for money) to help others by showing the consequences of addiction. I think he'd also say that these people are getting help, help they couldn't afford on their own. The kind of rehab these people get with Dr. Drew -- room & board, staff, one-on-one counseling and group sessions -- would cost the average person $20,000 or more!
What is misleading about this show is it's depiction of the rehab industry. It is in fact an industry after dollars. Rehab doctors (many of them are recovering addicts themselves)charge a lot of money to dispense help to the addicted. No money, no help. All cash. Drug addicts are helped off by giving them another addictive drug, effectively replacing one dealer with another.
Were all rehab drs Drew Pinsky.
The values' rhetoric promoted by Obama's campaign would seem to be in conflict with the idea of giving CK a senate seat. She is a society philanthropist and has never demonstrated any skills required for governing effectively and competently. Haven't we learned from the disaster of Dubya that political savvy is not genetic?
I oppose CK as senator for the same reason I opposed HC as president--no reliable proof that the person has earned or built an understanding of the political terrain she'd be in charge of. If she had expressed an interest in a political office years ago and tried to run for county clerk or councilperson.... But everyone has to start at the top.
I think she'll regret her decision should she get the appointment, she'll tire of constant demands, challenges, and bad manners.
Campaign finance reform could open up politics to a wider range of people with different and more useful talents than fundraising and hobknobing. CK should ask herself if what she's doing represents her idea of how government should work in the U.S.
This is ridiculous. Someone ought to arrest Mccain for endangering democracy. Does he think so little of his country that he would vouch for anybody to be president...and we're stuck with it?
I wonder what condi rice thought (although she's used to working with Bush). Kay Hutchinson. Olympia Snowe?
Remember, she's willing to go against her own party, including McCain, if she thinks she is right. This is how the Republicans will spin it. That Sarah, she's got her own ideas, that's for sure!
Already her supporters are decrying gibson for asking intimidating questions. They also accuse ABC of editing out her good responses!
But take a look at the way ABC wrote up the exchange. They made her sound like James Baker! then you watch the video and you go, wha????
ABC is apparently running scared because Palin did so poorly, so they are writing her up in a more credible light.
What happened to journalism?
She looks like me when I go to buy a car. They see me coming from around the block.
This is frightening. McCain ought to be charged with treason. Didn't we learn our lesson with Don Quayle?
Of course, we know the reaction. Her supporters will accuse all critics of sexism. Or they'll accuse Gibson of being patronizing. Or they'll go back to Obama and revive the pig debates.
If Sarah Palin is an example of the kind of people McCain will pick for his cabinet...well, I'm moving to Amsterdam. For real this time.
I'm not buying it. I didn't buy it when Hillary brought it up, and I think it's a highly manufactured fiction that has unfortunately created divisions where there were none.
Women are represented on almost every important level of American life--they are news anchors, they are senators, they are CEOs, they are doctors, lawyers, secretaries of state. They are home owners and business owners. So what if someone refers to you as a mother? They aren't stopping you from doing what you want and succeeding at it.
Maybe one day black people will reach the heights that women have. If we do, I'd could care less about somebody's racist hangups, as long as I and others are can be all that we want to be.
If you really want to hear some "ism's" listen to conservative talk radio and how they talk about Obama. Return of the code-talkers. They promote him as a Muslim ("I wish this country could elect a Muslim, someone with the same religion as the terrorists--the world would see how tolerant we are," they say; or, "he wants to take from one group and give what's yours to another group...like a marxist"...) McCain doesn't have to say this stuff when he knows that the local talk radio surrogates will.
Palin wants to encourage sexism because it makes the press skittish to approach her. I think the press should stand up for themselves and say ENOUGH. If you want us to cover you and ride on your plane, then you're going to have to start acting like a candidate and answer questions. Otherwise, go to....
...but she must be deliberately setting low expectations for her Biden debate. No politician is that savvy-less.
Abraham Lincoln? God assured all of us liberty and the pursuit of happiness as his grand plan? It's rather dangerous to mix up government and a U.S. God in that way.
"Uh, let me see. My briefing book states that we must support our Nato allies without blinking. No matter what, Charles. You heard me!."
Are you kidding me?
