She's not in Prison or the Big House

Paris Hilton is in jail, not prison. If anyone should be quibbling over semantics, it should be a Salon contributor. Prison is a far more hardcore experience with hardcore inmates. County jail may hold felons on their way to prison but it is not the same, miles from it. Get it right. There is a difference.

Original article: Obama's designated a--hole

He may be an asshole,

But he's our asshole. I'd be concerned if Obama didn't want a hatchet man. Lord knows he's going to need one. I'm thrilled to have a guy like Emanuel there to help peel back the onion of Bush/Cheney secrecy. It bodes well for the eventual prosecution of one or both of those fucks. Cheney, hopefully, is going to have the FBI knocking on his door soon enough. If constitutional lawyer Obama feels that there were egregious violations of the law, he'll need a pitbull like Rahm. Cheney/Bush should not just be able to skate off in to the sunset.

Original article: The Obamas on "60 Minutes"

It IS soothing washing dishes

The Obamas should put The Razor's Edge with Bill Murray on their Whitehouse movie night list. Dish washing by hand, none of this loading the dishwasher crap, but soapy suds in a sink dish washing, is totally zen.

I like that word 'Pentecostal'

I looked it up. It's an excellent wedge word for the wingnut wing of the wingnut party. I like it. It can be applied like Jewish Pentecostalists or Islamic Pentecostalists. It's a great brush to paint all the religious wingnuts with. Palin is a Pentecostalist. Huckabee is.

I'm some how channeling Karl Rove in these pieces. Well, that's my guess. He's right in some ways. The gays have been pushy about it as if it some how validates them. This wedge issue cost Kerry the election in 2004 so thanks bitches for that. It should have been framed as a civil rights issue all along. It's not a threat to church sanctioned marriage at all.

Original article: Big fat controversy

More weight or square footage, it's a cold equation

More mass, means more fuel, more space, less income and more cost. On the flip side, a 48 pound 1st grader should fly cheaper. I think a weight algorithm built in to the reservations system is a sensible tax and smart business.

Conservative science is hitting a bullet with a bullet

This guy is still talking about Reagan and Star Wars who was in retrospect correct but in the most cynical way. The arms race did go to space and we had to lead on it. Reagan loved building arms and he loved stoking the arms industries. If the world is more militarized in 30 years past, we can thank Reagan for that.

I still think this guy is Karl Rove, he certainly strikes Rove's tone. Did you notice how he avoids the 800 pound gorilla in the room? What about evolution Karl? Creationism is anti science and you damn well know it. For that matter, denying the simple base fact that the Earth is warming (the ice is melting, I mean duh), Karl's main point of rhetorical defense, is also anti science. There may be grounds for arguing the reasons for climate change but the fact is, it is.

That's why you lose elections Karl. You are anti science in a era of science and at a time where science is the key tool to save our race and planet. Fu*k you Karl. You sound like an asshole, you really, sincerely do. Thank Jesus on a pogo stick you're out the door. You and your anti science ilk brought the country to the edge of ruin. (including economic science, way to control the futures and derivatives markets failure boy) You sir, are a traitor.

PS, I love Cheney/Limbaugh going after the General war hero black man. Your party is toast.

McCain mocking federal funding for Grizzley bear studies puts it in the nutshell

When McCain was railing on about important wildlife biology initiatives like the effort to collect bear hair that collects on Montana barb wire fences and tree bark, I did a little research. That bear project is a good project, well planned and with useful, important data about a threatened species. The sic "moderate" McCain proved the GOP's anti science position right then and there, yet again, for me and I knew that a vote for reason and science was going to be in the Democrat column, yet again.

The Republicans have swung so far wingnut that by their current standards, even Nixon would be a Democrat.

Gays and other Liberals have shown terrible political instincts

I'm fairly progressive but I come out against gay marriage for strategic reasons. This very issue was used as a wedge to defeat John Kerry in 2004 and for that I blame strident gays who want to take a word that is sacrosanct for many people and beat them with it. Gays could have their entire agenda in place by now based on an civil rights argument with full legal equality but with their ham handed tactics, they can't even win California. Some things you can't barge in the front door with so you use the side door. Even Obama is against gay marriage. You see, he wants to win. If it's framed as a civil rights issue it becomes a wedge that we can use on them. 'Marriage' is such a loaded and hot word. Liberals are terrible at seizing the rhetoric and on this issue, it really shows.

Original article: Thank you, Pat Leahy

They're Pelosiboating her........whoever she is

Let's demonize the women is their apparent strategy. This nomination is quicksand for them and the whole thing is just icky but it is fun to watch them get stuck in it. If my recollection is correct, this goes way beyond any tactics used by the Democrats back when torpedoing Bork and they got Bork anyway in Scalia. As for Clarence Thomas, I believe Anita Hill. She was brave to stand up and look what they did to her.
