  • Security vs. Freedom

[Read the article: Ask the pilot]

It's too bad that the majority of people who live in the US haven't questioned why terrorism is such a pet theme of the current adminstration? Rather than truly fighting terrorists and terrorism our government, aided by our tacit and unquestioning acceptance of the Bush administration's tactics to largely limit our freedoms rather than protect us, is truly confounding! It's too bad, really, that Franklin Roosevelt can't return, even briefly, to gently whisper or maybe bellow at the complete sheep like compliance of Americans with his famous words: "The only fear that we have to fear is fear itself!" But of course, those on the right would find a way to impugn and discredit the man and we'd remain exactly as we are: a nation caught up in fear and cowed to the point that we can only hunker down and pray that the end doesn't sear our once democratic skins too greatly.

  • Media Truth

[Read the article: The Olbermann factor]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is extremely refreshing to read about Mr. Olbermann and his views concerning the news and this administration. I only disagree with Mr. Olbermann on one key point. Mr. Olbermann, there are issues that have not yet received proper coverage in the news in much longer than four days. The value of re-visiting such issues should in fact have the power to be resurrected, addressed, and broadcasted for the public good.

It's too bad there are so few media outlets in the U.S. that allow news people with divergent views from this administration to have equal time to simply report the facts. The news as a liberal entity hasn't existed freely for quite some time and it's time to truly have sources, and the emphasis here is on "sources", for balanced and information packed reporting of the news.

  • Osama as "Urban Myth"

[Read the article: Bush and bin Laden, or when the "urban myth" happens to be true]

Bush and bin Laden, or when the "urban myth" happens to be true

George W. Bush on Osama bin Laden, Sept. 15, 2006: "There's kind of an urban myth here in Washington about how this administration hasn't stayed focused on Osama bin Laden. Forget it. It's convenient throwaway lines when people say that."

George W. Bush on Osama bin Laden, March 13, 2002: "You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, Kelly, to be honest with you ... And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure ... I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

What more evidence do we need that Osama bin Laden was never a concern of the Bush Administration's War on Terror? Bush's war has focused on the Iraqui people and the dismantling of American freedoms. What a pity that none of us, particularly the people we pay to represent our views in Congress, care enough to stop this insanity! To think that as a nation we have allowed King George to usurp our dreams and our rights without a single whimper. The shards of dreams never truly disappear but to resurrect those shards and turn them once agin into whole dreams could take more than a lifetime or two.

  • Women...Write?

[Read the article: Where are the women writers?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Unfortunately, far too many women are content with writing "Chic Lit" or about chic issues and leave the business of politics and economics to men. Too bad...There really are women who have insightful ideas about the world we live in today. The death of Oriana Fallaci widens the depth of that hole considerably. To think that the best we have to look to for political commentary rests on the shoulders of a shrill, pig-headed, uninformed cross dresser named Ann Coulter!

  • Bush, Snow, et al

[Read the article: The Bush administration vs. the founding American principles]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It is clear that the guys in power are unclear about the Rule of Law and exactly how the various parts of government should interact to preserve laws and freedoms, The peple in Washington today are only interested in those things that expands their power and wealth! There are no great statesmen within the U.S. today...and that fact is truly unfortunate for the rest of us.
