Yes, Believing People Should Get a Fair Trial Means You Hate America

Nobody who is guilty should get a fair trial! If the President says that person is guilty or is just a bad egg, then who needs a trial?

The Constitution is NOT a suicide pact!!! If there are bad people who are terrorists (and if the government SAYS they are, that's good enough for ME), then the Constitution and all our old systems are just too fragile to handle trials and stuff like that! What if one of these terrorists goes free????!!!!! They could get a nuke and blow up CLEVELAND!!!! Or even HOUSTON!!!!!

It seems to me we should start looking at ALL trials like this, not just terrorist trials. I mean, what if a MURDERER goes free because the judge was a LIBERAL, or something?!!! Sentence first, trial second is the way things should be run.

Anyone who doesn't agree with that obviously hates America. If you USE the Constitution, it will get ALL WORN OUT and WON'T WORK ANYMORE!!!! Save it for REAL AMERICANS!!!!!

@ nvlaw re delusions and paranoia

In today's partial disclosure by the Government, Dr. Ivins now is tagged with the following self-diagnosis, allegedly set forth in an e-mail:

"I get incredible paranoid, delusional thoughts at times, and there's nothing I can do until they go away, either by themselves or with drugs."

Uh, there's a big problem with that, Doc (or whomever composed this so-called compelling 'circumstantial' evidence).

The problem is that people actually suffering from delusional disorder (formerly "paranoia") are completely unaware that they are, in fact, suffering from any delusions. Just one of of those quirky psychological conditions that tells the victim he is not sick.

It all depends on how delusional and paranoid. A close family member has a "light" mental illness, fairly well controlled with Prozac. When he decides that he "really doesn't need the meds" he'll start spiraling up with the delusions and paranoia, but is quite aware of what is happening -- he just believes the delusions are true and the paranoia is justified. Then he realizes he's going over the edge again, visits the doctor, gets back on the meds and is fine.

I also had a close friend with a fairly severe psychosis, who was committed to institutions a number of times, hearing voices, extremely paranoid, etc. The last time, when he felt himself spiraling down into the delusional state again -- he was very much aware it was happening -- he took his own life because he couldn't stand descending into delusion again.

Only anecdotal, personal experience, but in both cases, the parties were quite aware of their mental states at some time.

Andrew Bacevich @ Adnoto

If you look at Bacevich's wikipedia entry, you'll see that he was a vocal critic of the Iraq war and US imperialism long before his son was killed. Bacevich is and has always been a conservative and you probably would disagree with almost everything the guy believes, but he's an old-fashioned isolationist, not a war monger.

Nice try

Isn't it infuriating how little "we, the people" have to do with our government anymore? Besides pay our taxes regularly and on time, of course.

But nice job, by the two of you.

And obviously Derbig Mooser is Der Big Mooser. He's just foolin' ya if he tries to say otherwise. Some things are meant to be, and that's one of 'em.

What about the computers?

Were the computers and papers returned?

I am still angry with the Dems for going along with the "Free Speech Zone" thing again. Presume the Repubs will have even smaller "zones" that are even farther away.

I didn't know politics could be so enjoyable

Something about this whole Palin thing, with the Right screaming about how MEAN the media is...simply scrumptious. Karma, anyone? Best Bill Clinton is loving it.

OT -- Zwrite, we come here to read Glenn because we LIKE him. The fact that there are a lot of us readers is why he's gone from being an unknown to really really (to paraphrase you) well known in just a few short years. Who are you and why should we care what YOU think of Glenn? (That is the polite form of my comment.)

Original article: New heights of stupidity

I sent MSNBC a letter

Not that it will do any good, but if enough people make enough noise, maybe someone will listen.

If Sarah Palin is our next VP, we are leaving this country. We've already started the emigration process. I really don't like to be so negative, but this is it for us. I loved the idea of the U.S.A., but a country that glorifies ignorance, stupidity, and violence,is just not the place we want to be anymore. If we elect McCain/Palin, after 8 years of Bush/Cheney, it will show me that the idea of America is completely dead and probably not resurrectable.

God help me, I would really like to punch someone in the snoot right now. I am a bad Quaker.

Innocent Lives

I mean, c'mon. It's a bit hard to convince people that our nation mourns the loss of every innocent life when we don't even acknowledge them.

We mourn the loss of OUR innocents. Today, the TV stations are all in an orgy of wailing and gnashing of teeth over 9/11 (and don't give me any guff about my feelings on this wingers -- I knew personally 6 people who died in NY that day). But the innocents WE have killed in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9/11? Don't make me laugh. They weren't innocent - they were Muslims.

Apparently, that's how Fox News and the War Party feel about it, anyway. And quite a few Americans, as well.
