The good guys didn't win but we didn't lose either. Thanks to Sen. Dodd, Glenn, Christy and everybody who did their bit. Even a small victory is SWEET!

  • Yippe and thanks, but

[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    ...what do we do now?

I've called/e-mailed Senators to thank them. Sent money to Dodd and posted supportive comment on his blog.

But what next? I like this "winning" thing, it's so fun and unusual.

(Re: Feingold and running for Prez, I think something happened. A few years ago he was definitely running, had a preliminary organization, etc. Then, whether because his family put their foot down, or he's got a skeleton in his closet that someone threatened to reveal, or ????, he decided not to run. Pity, since he's really a good egg.)

  • Thanks, Nab!

    A New Dawn of Hope

The Lieberman endorsement of McCain is an important milestone in the political development of our nation, which you radlibs myopically fail to appreciate. In the coming decades the US will face multiple challenges from a myriad of enemies both internal and external. Partisan bickering has no place in such perilous times -- it will fatally undermine our nation and render it easy pickings for the vultures waiting to swoop down upon us. But the McCain-Lieberman alliance is is a very hopeful sign of a forthcoming fundamental political realignment, where the best elements of both parties combine to form a new movement, lets say the "America First Party" and the extreme partisan elements are swept away with extreme prejudice into the dustbin of history.

So, really, thanks, I needed a good belly laugh. Excellent spoof.

You have discovered Glenn's secret -- he is actually that strange, elusive creature described in Jonah Goldberg's latest (onliest?) tome, Liberal Fascism.

Glenn, the problem is that people don't like thinking about the beam in their own eye when it's so much more fun pointing out the mote in the other guy's orb.

Or, like the Republican torture supporter said (Andrew Sullivan had it just recently), if the U.S. tortures it's for a good reason so it's OK. When somebody else tortures, it's for a bad reason, so it's not OK.

    It's tough not being tribal.

  • Shoot

And I was about to send Reid an e-mail thanking him for blocking Bush's recess appointments over the Christmas break. (To make up for the somewhat terse phone calls and e-mails over FISA.) Give 'em hell, Harry. Uh huh.

Congrats to Glenn (I think?) for being Antiwar.com's Liberal of the Year.

Thanks for a very clear explanation of the problem with McCain's ad. I cannot and will not criticize McCain for what he thought, believed, felt, when he was a POW. Nor can I criticize anyone for their faith -- or lack thereof -- in the Divine. We all cope with the human condition in our own way. But exploitive tribalism is a bad thing. As a Christian, I find exploiting Christianity for political gain and partisan hackery particularly repugnant.

    Peace to us all.

  • Poofing

[Read the article: Peggy Noonan is a serious "grown-up"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Don't think Peggy was even hinting at the British "poofter" since many Americans don't know that word. Do think she was using the American feminine "poofing your hair" to point out -- again! -- how small, dainty and unserious John "Breck Girl" Edwards is.

I am utterly, deadly sick of these people. They have made a huge mess in the world, caused thousands of deaths, dumped enormous amounts of money -- my dang tax dollars, thanks very much -- down the drain, shredded the Constitution, etc., etc., ad nauseam, and they're busy prancing around bleating about who is serious or not. How long before rage is fatal?

  • Brushes his hair like a girl

[Read the article: Peggy Noonan is a serious "grown-up"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

ZOMG, John Edwards brushes his hair like a girl!!!!!.

Yes, this is certainly a complete and irrevocable denunciation of Edwards. Brushing your hair in a certain way is much more of a disqualifier than being a torturer, or attacking countries without any provocation, or causing thousands upon thousands of deaths.

Too bad no one had video of GWB brushing his hair before 2000 -- we could have saved the world a LOT of misery.

  • Which is worse? 911 Conspiracy Theories, Ron Pauliacs...or Shooter?

Perhaps it is the biliousness of too many holiday gatherings in too short a space of time talking, but today I have no hope of anything coming of the torture tape destruction, except a few sternly worded letters.

Of course, none of it matters since Sandy Berger once did something bad.

I hope your digestive tract and spirits are in better shape than mine, Glenn.

  • Military worship

The Beast blog has it's "most loathsome" of 2007 up: http://www.buffalobeast.com/122/50mostloathsome2007.html

One of my favorites -- a trifle crude, perhaps :), but certainly apropos to this discussion:

Nothing says "I have a tiny penis" like a douchebag taking pictures of himself with a gun.

Glenn has written about the connection between the worship of faux masculinity and our current woes. I can't help but agree that the military sickness that is taking over our culture is connected to fear, especially fear of being seen as small, cowardly, unmanly.

I have nothing against the military, per se -- I was a volunteer myself in the late 70s -- but in a free and democratic republic, the military should be a minor part of not only our budgets but our lives. Swaggering and false bravado not required.
