Sorry Shaun Narine

If you try to understand the Iranians or look at events from their point of view, then you are an America-hater and a traitor. Besides, understanding is for wimps.

Real men don't try to understand. Real men bomb. Got it? Get with the program.

(Is this an example of our traditional distrust of intellectualism finally coming back to bite us in the butt real hard?)

@ a12323 re vile anti-semitism

You might find it easy and or convenient to ignore vile anti-semitism, but I do not and will not. If you think I'm picking nits, that's your issue, not mine.

-- al2323

You apparently missed Glenn's post about this. There is an "anonymous" troll poster who periodically comes here, decides (apparently) that Israel/"the Jews" are being bashed, and leaves some really stupid "sarcastic" anti-semitic remark to (in his/her mind) show how horribly anti-semitic we all are.

I don't believe anyone has ever responded to this particular anonymous's silly "gotcha" posts. As far as I've noticed, everyone here just ignores him/her.

And probably will continue to do so.

I believe the "anti-semitic" post you're reacting to was one of those.

Star Chamber

but seriously folks,

Do we need a Star Chamber? Personally, I'm happy with a constitutional republic. The problem with human endeavors, as we see with our own rapidly vanishing const. repub., is that they get corrupted over time. Some humans will always seek power and wealth, some will be corrupt and change things to suit their own selfish ends, others will make adjustments for "good" reasons but the endeavor will be changed for the worse nevertheless. It is the nature of things.

The Framers thought long and hard about how to make a "perfect union", and discussed many of the ideas being batted around here. I think they came up with a pretty good system -- the question is how do we get back to it?

Glenn, both as an attorney and as a blogger, is doing his best to restore the Republic. Some other ideas?

Original article: Various items

re Scoop Jackson

One thing the article neglected to mention, which is key to why many "Scoop Dems" vote the way they do in modern times -- Scoop was radically pro-Israel, or should I say, Likudnik Israel.

Hillary is our nominee.

She may be YOUR nominee. Please don't include me in the group that you think includes "our".

Hillary is pure Beltway. The major difference between her and GWB is that she is not insane. An advantage, in some respects, but on the other hand, she will get a pass from people like Wes for doing stuff that drives people like Wes crazy when done by Dubya.

Re W.E.S. & Sarcasm

Sorry, I missed it. Between coming down with a cold and being apoplectic about the 76-22 Iran vote, my sense of humor is pretty much nil at the moment.

But even in a good mood, I don't like Hillary.

But Glenn, you really just don't get it.

You see, the generals Fox was criticizing WERE traitors, because they didn't want their soldiers to kill indiscriminately -- and they didn't want their soldiers to torture A-rabs! Don't you know we're losing the war because of the "PC" restrictions put on the troops?

The distinction between Good Generals and Bad Generals should be obvious, even to you.

:)

Phony Soldiers

I agree with Garry Owen. You should contact Rush immediately and tell him you've found one of those Phony Soldiers he was nattering on about -- he'd probably really appreciate it.

@ Elephantman & Exterminating the Jews

But thing that gets me about Hitler/Ahmadinejad comparisons is that Ahmdinejad is actually talking in terms that sound like the extermination of all Jews.

According to Juan Cole, who speaks Farsi and doesn't have an axe to grind, no, he wasn't. http://www.juancole.com/2006/05/hitchens-hacker-and-hitchens.html

(scroll down to see Cole's explanation)

BUT, say Ahmadinejad DID say that he had a sophisticated plan to exterminate all Jews -- how would he go about it?

Let's look at the facts:

1) Ahmadinejad is not the CinC of the Iranian military

2) A's popular has waned considerably since he was elected (an election he probably would have lost had Bush not demonized him and made him something of a hero in his country...at least til the economy tanked)

3) The mullahs who DO control the military have not expressed any wish to "exterminate all the Jews", nor any wish to engage in military action.

4) Iran's military is small

5) In order to "exterminate all the Jews" Iran would probably have to start with its own population of Jews -- none of whom seem to be in fear for their lives, and indeed many of whom turned down bribes from Israel to move to that country

6) In order to "exterminate all the Jews" Iran would certainly have to wage a hellacious war against Israel. With what army? Against how many Israeli nukes? (Over 200 seems to be the current count.)

7) Iran has not initiated any wars in a very long time.

8) Iran does not appear to be in the mood for a war with the U.S., which would certainly ensue if Iran attacked Israel.

So, even if Ahmadinejad is the total fruitcake you guys make him out to be, how would he go about his nefarious plans?

If he did say what you said he said, then he bears watching. But if we launched wars every time some world leader said something nutty (Axis of Evil, anyone), the world would be blown up.

Why are you so afraid?
