@Tiberius

Glenn...

believes that we are illegal occupationists of Iraq

"Occupiers" is the word you want.

The English usage I can correct. The errors of logic and fact are too numerous to bother with.

We Don't Torture

The thing that always amuses me (wrong verb, but it will have to do) about the people who are so strongly for Gitmo, black sites, extraordinary rendition, "enhanced interrogation", ad naseum, is that they always say, in high dudgeon, "We do NOT torture." And then go on to say how the "terrorists" deserve torture anyway, so even though we don't torture, if we do torture it just shows how manly we are and it's the most AMAZING CLASH OF CIVILIZATIONS ever!!!! so we HAVE to torture. But we don't torture.

Should I be surprised that this makes no sense?

Blueberries and Clog Dancin'

We need Glenn to come along with a new post, or bebop to do the Groundhog Reel or sumpin', cuz we're a-gettin' all clogged up with bucky vs kitt/lwm/new anon?-with-occasional-hash-slinging-allies bumper car smashups.

Pleez.

No poison oak here, but poison ivy sprouts its lovely deadly twinings and every opportunity, and the skeeters love all the new growing things in my 1/3 of an acre -- and they love me, too. Ouch! Itch!

OT Free Ann Coulter

I really am going to have to do sack cloth and ashes or worse for ever having voted for a Republican in the past. I am really, really sorry and I'll never do it again.

Just got a robo-call phone "survey" from FreeAnnCoulter.com, urging me to get a free subscription to Ann's newsletter or something. Questions were along the lines of (paraphrasing, because I had to wash the ur-slime off my memory first): Did I think the liberal media was destroying the U.S.? Did I want to protect my right to own guns? Did I realize that immigrants were destroying America? Did I donate to a church?

These people are just so creepy.

As part of my penance, I'm going to go donate some more to the ACLU and to American Friends Service Committee (h/t to be-bop). Oh, God.

Moling

Please tell us more.

-- Karen M

I find it very hard to read the mounds of Republican mailings that I get. (I get mounds because I once contributed. Sorry. I'm sorry. Sorry.) But what I do with the missives from Rudy or Grover, et al, is put "War is Not the Answer" (thanks to the Quakers) on the requests for money, make the envelope as heavy as possible and mail it back, using the candidate's prepaid envelope, of course.

This works particularly well, as a teeny-tiny guerrilla action, because, having gotten one response from me -- even though negative -- the campaign then sends me another mailing. Which I weight, doll up with anti-war slogans, and return.

You don't have to contribute to get on the mailing lists. You can just sign up at some Republican web site and the envelopes start pouring in.

Reality

reality based alternative national security policy for America that includes his demand for a complete American capitulation to the forces of radical Islam in Iraq.

Um, yeah. Sure. Just back up slowly and keep your hands within view at all times.

Bebopper

I can't offer any advice, Be-bop, except to talk to a lawyer if you have one. :(

Makes me mad that a sweet guy like you, who served as loyal and honest cannon fodder for the imperium (with no offense to you or others in the same boat, meant) is stuck in this sticky web of laws and consequences without end, while a rich scum bucket like "Scooter" walks. I wish the spiders would come and get him and his filthy bosses. Where's Shelob when you need her?

Post It Notes

* (B) COMMUTE THE JAIL TIME. HISTORY WILL CALL YOU PRUDENT.

* (c) full pardon. history will say you weren't truly tough on crime.

-- sysprog

Actually, I think you're wrong. This looks to have been a carefully crafted decision. As soon as the court announced it would allow Mr. Libby to go to jail immediately, the commutation was announced. This allows Scooter to stay out of jail, keep his mouth shut (why do I suspect a quid pro quo?) and also allow him to plead the 5th in any investigation during the next 18 months. However, look for Bush Jr. to issue a full pardon on the last day of his term.

The administration (Cheney, Addington, Abrams, Rove) was willing to suffer the groans of disappointed "conservatives" who were calling for a complete and immediate pardon in order to keep Libby out of jail and keep his mouth shut NOW. They'll get all the love they need at pardon time in 18 months. In the meantime, it's a win-win situation for them.
