i'm a little disappointed that you chose not to comment on david stern. because to me, he has become a total run-amok mini-prick, i can hardly stand to listen to his napoleonic-complex ass being interviewed, he is so smug, so self-absorbed, that even when he says or does something sensible, i can't swallow it because of where it came from. the dismissive way he chides the players union, the sanctimonious way he stubs out the individuality of players like AI, he has gone beyond self-important to self-omnipotent.

mumia shmumia
[Read the article: A victory for Mumia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]your website is always debunking liberal myths that make us look like idiots. why not do the same with this story? hopefully it goes without saying among your readers that the death penalty is barbaric (and unchristian from my point of view), places us in the company of the sickest nations on earth, and unfairly administered. it ought to be abolished, period. but from what i have read over the years, the evidence against mumia, while it may not be overwhelming, is of roughly the same character as the evidence standing behind hundreds of other capital convictions. it is by no means the worst case out there. so what if he has an interesting radio show? why should we care about him? because he's black and has cool dreadlocks? that's not good enough. tell us why, or why not.

alito filibuster
[Read the article: More Democrats swing toward Alito; filibuster seems hopeless]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i don't mean to sound cynical, but we all need to hope that alito does help overturn roe v. wade. i swear, legal abortion by thirty-year-old judicial decree hurts liberal causes more than any other issue i know. let's face it, we all hate the thought of abortions. at the same time, we all hate the thought of abortion being completely illegal and unsafe everywhere. but, we all know that there will be states where it will be safe and legal even after roe is overturned. we ought to know that "pro-lifers" will then undertake an effort to amend the constitution to prohibit abortion. and when that happens we can finally, at long last, have a national debate on abortion. and "pro-lifers" will finally be forced to listen to reasonable counterarguments, and perhaps it will finally dawn on them that they are in fact a minority, and that reasonable people, christian people, can and do disagree with them, in whole or in part, for good reasons. i'm serious, i just got done dumping a catholic girlfriend because i couldn't take her politics, and i swear she's not dumb, but she sees everything through the prism of abortion, and honest to God she thinks it's just a few judges and feminists against this great mass of people who want to see roe overturned. she doesn't have a clue about the silent majority view of abortion.
when that's over with, maybe we can work on eliminating the other great distraction issue of our era - guns.

more thoughts on weighty issues and media day...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i am not a labor lawyer, but i am told by someone who is that reducing the number of available jobs is considered a fundamental and serious attack on a collective bargaining agreement and can't be done unilaterally. this is one reason why the players union objected to the dissolution of the montreal expos. so i don't believe the two-way player idea, which is very interesting, could ever work in the NFL because the players union would oppose it on financial grounds, even though it would in theory be good for its members in a medical sense. ironic, but not unprecedented.
regarding four-syllable quarterbacks, my recollection is that at least the more recent of the two Taliaferos pronounced his name TAHL-uh-ver, which used to puzzle me as a kid. i also believe Salisbury sounds like SALS-berry (or burry), and Gagliano is pronounced gohl-YAH-no. i'm not certain, but you'd better check it out before you finalize your list.

chappelle's roots
[Read the article: "Dave Chappelle's Block Party"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]i know dave is modern and swears a lot and all of that, but does anybody else see the strange synthesis of jack benny and rochester in chappelle's timing, style and material?

today's NCAA hoops column
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]dear king:
nicely done. you said it best - don't like being a bubble team? play better!
also, please continue to rip on billy packer. he has sucked for so long it's unbelievable. i know of no championship game in any sport that has been so completely monopolized for so long by one boring blowhard commentator. i guess it's because of tv contracts, but i find it hard to believe that every single final four of my adult life bears the stain of his awful work. he's a so-what coach from a by-gone era. would people put up with it if abe gibron had been the color analyst for the past 25 super bowls? i think not. and jim nantz? he's a golf and tennis kind of guy. note to important white guys at CBS: get a clue and summon the courage to put gus johnson and len elmore courtside on monday night!

the best sportswriter...
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]dear king:
with all due respect to dan wetzel, i don't believe he is the best sportswriter in america. i believe that distinction belongs to pro football writer bob mcginn of the milwaukee journal-sentinel. you ought to check him out if you haven't already. you are my favorite sports COLUMNIST, by the way, if that is a valid distinction. so keep up the great work, and thanks for ripping bush today...the other one.
