The lil' Republican House of Sin
[Read the article: Larry Craig's bathroom behavior and the right wing -- then and now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]True Washington story:
There is a house above Chevy Chase Circle which was owned by a family friend (of my family) -- it had been the family home until they bough another house below the Circle and rented the old one out -- she is fairly prominent and well known in various political cicles. In 1990 or so she received a phone call from her former neighbors to the effect that the Secret Service and various police forces were raiding the place (door, battering ram, etc.) So what was going on . . .
Well it seems that the tenant -- connected with a well known family of funeral home operators had been running a business from the house, supplying male prostitutes to prominent Republicans, and also running well, a discreet bordello of the gay variety. It also seems that they were using credit cards for payment -- the Secret Service were raiding because it appears that there was a little credit card fraud going on, i.e., charges were being put through for more servicing than was in fact rendered (I'd love to know who complained to the police.) The police trashed the place, but left behind papers (printouts) including a stack of polaroids, etc., which the owner of the house found. She is quite well known and rather gossipy and developed a habit of whipping the Polaroids out of her purse at DC receptions of all sorts. Suffice it to say that the story was all over NW Washington in 1990-91, until she was leaned on pretty heavily to shut up (I have to say that the photo trick was problematic for hosts at various places.)
The Republicans availing of the services of this business (which apparently "catered" the RNC convention) are quite prominent and in a few cases surprising -- many "family values types." I suppose they though that C would be a discreet vendor. As far as I know no prosecutions were ultimately filed (it was under a Republican admin.)
This story by the way is far from a secret in DC and a lot of Dems know about it. By the way, I have heard the facts and seen at least some of the evidence -- so this is not BS -- though my mother did see the one with the Collie, which shocked her -- I still do not know what was going on with the dog... she won't say .. apparently she thinks I am too innocent.

lil Republican House of Sin

[Read more letters about this article: Here]The story in the Washington Times from 1989 is partly accurate - it details the raid which did happen (1989) and did involve the prostitution ring described -- the whole thing became enmeshed in another story, where there was a lot of hoaxing. You can get at least some of the story from the Washington Times -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:WTFranklinpage.gif
As always the Moony paper is unreliable except as to certain facts, i.e., th raid, the credit cards and the photos.
Realistically, prostitution in DC goes on, and in the closet gay republicans tend to use vendors who cater to Republicans -- its more discreet that way.
The hypocricy is breathtaking though.
