BTW just because you are observant

Doesn't mean you would know more than the already established regulations. Either a place is Halal or it's not. It's not a 'mostly' sort of Halal. Because if it's not in any small way, it's not Halal at all. Period. Though I can appreciate the nature of not having people come work who stuffed a ham and cheeses sandwich in their pocket.

I'm waiting for the piece that complains that the hijab

Caused a weak feminine Muslim factory worker to get decapitated in an industrial accident where some nasty machine sucked it in. Because THAT would be bad.

Every married woman I know has cheated on her current or former husband

Two of them were married when they started 'dating' their current husband. One cheated with two of her pastors. One is a serial cheater. For Broadsheet to suddenly take the tack that 'women don't cheat unless they are sluts' is hypocrisy of the highest order.

He is what is

Obama YHWH. A little gray for the Lord is not a bad thing. Give a deity a break.

Then fine, no mens or womens' sports

I'm good with that. Mix everyone in together. Let me know how that works out. I bet I just bet that 99 times out of a hundred a man will come out the victor in every sport except for possibly the more avocation related things like archery or skeet shooting or sailing (and not even including bowling with PBA and LPBA scores are a matter of record and men always outscore women.

In a related front, the best women's professional tennis player in the world, against a top male college amateur, is probably a draw for her, or worse. Women can't hit as hard, put as much spin on the ball or cover the court as quickly.

Then show me an LPGA player who can consistently hit 300 yds with accuracy AND play a top short game.

Then find me any top female cyclist who could finish in the top 20 of any short or long mens' professional event, anywhere anytime.

Then find me any marathon event that has been won by any woman in a mixed gender competitive field, ever. Or even where the top woman's time was within 10 finishing places of the overall fastest times.

I had forgotten about the convention

I just assumed at this point from reading Salon that Obama is already the President and Prince of Peace of the World. Is there seriously any point in wasting the time and effort in even having a convention anymore?

Also is there a Constitutional requirement to HAVE a running mate and VP? I don't believe there is. I hope Obama runs w/o a Veep who would obviously be incinerated in the naked light of the Lord anyway.

Original article: Obama's all-star summit

I'm sorry but this IS Salon and it wouldn't be w/o some OCD point to bring up

But can candidates actually hold a summit meeting? Are we even bothering to pretend that there's supposed to be an election anymore? Because if not, then I am fine with coronations.

Original article: A bookmark for the iPod

Cmon soccermoms stick with the script

Books on CD are things you get from the library for long or recurring car rides. YOU'RE the people who want to publically execute people who fiddle with phones and MP3 players while driving. Books on iPod would be Salon's Uber Terrorist Weapon of Mass Anti-Safety of all time times eleventy infinity billion squared.

And yet what precisely do these sanctions accomplish

Today there are about 5000 PLA troops in Sudan guarding Chinese oil interests. There are about 5000 French troops in the Central African Republic guarding French coltan interests in the CAR and Congo. There are Ethiopian troops in Somalia doing god knows what. And troops from Ghana and Nigeria as well as France in Cote d'Ivoire enforcing 'international justice' and sanctions. The Bosnian republic is ruled as a virtual absolute dictatorship by the UN who's viceroy can enact or overturn any law he likes. While in next door Serbia, the 'sanctions' did almost nothing until the government decided on the PR stunt of turning over a well known wanted man for war crimes who was openly living there.

What exactly did sanctions do for Iraq in the years 1991-2001? I mean other than precipitate ethnic violence? And I'd like someone to point to all the good that sanctions and/or sternly worded letters did with Iran or China (vis a vis Tibet for example).

I suppose all the liberal bloggers everywhere can call for the entire US government to be hanged from cranes in public like Iranian criminals, but that's not likely to occur.

Oh wait I forgot, this isn't about 'results' it's about media critics critiquing other media critics and thinking they have even 1% of the pull they think they do.

Original article: When a vagina is not enough

If it doesn't matter then why are female runners 100% consistently slower than males?

There is no female runner at any distance who is faster than a man. If gender differences don't matter then why does that occur. There is no female field events athlete; high jump, pole vault, shot put, discus, javelin, hammer, long jump who has a better record than a man. If gender differences don't matter then why does that occur.

the question I keep coming back to

Is that the first so called international tribunal ever held since the notion of such things was enacted after WW2 was in 1993. Certainly there were good enough reasons to hold one in the intervening 48 years. So obviously these things and the 'rule of law' behind them are more about politics than the notion of law, let alone justice. The idea that the 'law' itself can and should remediate these abuses sounds almost quaint, divorced from the political realities of who enforces them.

For example both the French and Chinese governments clearly articulate a posture that states that such international laws form the cornerstone of their own foreign policy. Law and NGOs and transnational bodies are diplomacy by other names, force even. So the basis that these laws are intended to benefit anyone other than the French or Chinese (to the French and Chinese) is mistaken. So what is this 'rule of law' then but politics by other means?
